With all the talk about Windows Vista lately I'm thinking about trying it... But, I have an Adaptec Ultra320 SCSI RAID Controller, and there are no drivers for Vista (yet). Is it possible to use the drivers for Windows XP?

Yes you can use XP drivers. Sounds like you need to disable the "check for signed drivers". From this article : http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=34190[^] "Microsoft have added the ability to turn off the enforced driver signature checking via the boot menu (press F8 for advanced boot options). " He is reviewing the 64 bit version of Vista, and its sounding like driver support is getting pretty good. I remember when Windows 2000 came out it was a pain getting drivers. Probably worth checking Adaptec to see if they have released any new drivers themselves. Let me know how you get on. Would be interested. Thinking about it myself.

Given how prevalent Adaptec controllers are, I would expect there to be a driver on the DVD for this, and for it to be automatically detected. I don't think anything fundamental has changed in the Windows Driver Model for SCSI controllers, so an XP driver should still work.

So Microsoft will provide the world with the most secure OS they have come up with so far, and then everyone will disable the security features, one by one, in order to get it to actually work. :sigh:

XP is like that anyway, you can ignore, warn or block unsigned driver installation. 64 bit Vista is differrent though, unless it is signed you cant install the driver.

CYA. When people's machines get compromised, MS will be able to say that it's not their fault :-)

I wanted to try it as well on my new AMD64, but I downloaded Vista after the beta program was over, so I can't get a key or register it...

At least you know you are doing it, and I'm fairly sure it still warns you. Without the change at the boot process, it won't touch them. On the whole without drivers your PC can be usless, and with driver signing out as long as it has been, still so many manufacturers don't provide signed drivers. e.g. NVidia's latest drivers are not even signed, and they are probably amoung the most used drivers out there along with ATI's.
