I was sitting here, perusing some code, that preforms some banal task , on a friday evening, after getting home from work where for the past 8 hours I have been writng code that preforms some other banal tasks. When I realise I need to change my music thats playing away on my laptop, so I had to put down my guitar so I could get to keyboard and mouse again. Which this started me to wonder? What are the other developer's out there doing? So this is basically a poll to see what other developers taste in life are? what music do the guys listen too? Rock/Pop/Metal/punk/country/opera? whats the average day routine? What makes the dudes so crazy about coding?

alarm 6:45. cat jumps on me as soon as the alrm goes off. walk to the bathroom, take some pills. cat follows. walk to our 'office', turn on my PC. cat follows. walk downstairs, let the cat onto the back porch. put food in cat bowl. put me food in my bowl. back to the office to read emails. cat follows ten minutes later, demands attention. 7:45, open the window, let the cat sit on the sill and watch birds. take a shower, get dressed, watch the weather channel, curse at the inanity. out the door by 8:30 at work by 9:00. clean my tea cup. start firefox. should i go on?

Personally, I think coding is fun and interesting, but I could easily leave work at 5 on Friday and not think about programming until I'm getting ready for work again on Monday morning. I go through periods where I'm more interested in improving my skills than others, but I enjoy other things as well. Hiking, cycling, geocaching, working in the yard, going out with friends, reading up on whatever has currently piqued my curiosity, visiting with family. I mostly listen to hard rock, metal, jazz, blues, techno, and classical, but like old hip-hop, punk, new age, 80's and classic rock. I'm listening to John Mayer's newest CD and Everclear today.

Thank you, no that was fine and interesting "as is". Though, when you mention "me food", I was curious if that was cereal, and if so, which kind do you find most appealing?

cereal, yup. no one favorite. like beer, i try to buy a different kind each time. this time it's Fruity Cheerios (which are new, and taste like Froot Loops, but are made from Cheerios not from that crunchy corn stuff that Froot Loops are made of - so there's at least the suggestion that they're better for me than Froot Loops - i didn't check). there's also a box of Berry Blast Cheerios waiting. i used to be into Honeycomb and Apple Jacks, but i try to avoid the pure sugar kinds now that i'm all old and stuff. you?

are you assuming that all developers are guys and dudes or is that 'guys and dudes' in a generic sense?

Sitting in a portuguese internet cafe, perusing a problem with some core code I somehow "inherited", knowing that I can wash away all buggy thoughts with a glass of port under the chestnut trees, or a walk to the cathedral hill, or both, anytime I want. Travel rocks my world.

I was eying the Fruity Os last time I was shopping. I usually go for some kind of low-fat granola or whole wheat flakes with raisins and/or nuts. Kashi has some good stuff, especially their Blueberry Oat Surprise (I forget the real name of it). I'll still grab a box of Cap'n Crunch once in a blue moon. It cuts the hell out of the roof of my mouth, but I get masochistic like that sometimes. I still pine for the milk that's left after a bowl of Apple Jacks sometimes though. Especially from the last bowl, when you get all the powdered sugar that settled to the bottom of the box.

 do you play the guitar along to music playing on your PC? I'd dig to be able to play the intro part of Nirvana's Smells like teen spirit.
