I feel your pain. According to a post on the win_tech_off_topic[^] group the other day, it is likely to be released in December.

Funny, I woke this morning, and literally the first thought was, gee, I haven't heard anything about VS2005 SP1 for a long time! I hear about Vista, I hear about an open letter to writing apps for Vista, but I don't here about an SP that would make VS2005 a better tool for writing those apps! Marc

Heh. Was just thinking yesterday, how a year or so ago, there was non-stop discussion of VS2005, what was good, what was bad, what was new, what needed fixed... There were VS team blogs spewing out tips and tricks and workarounds left and right. And now... <sounds of crickets> No worries though; i'm sure we'll eventually get SP1 and some of the missing documentation - right around July, 2008...

Definitely. We've just started using it in anger (Visual Lint will now compile in either VS2003 or VS2005), and some of the shortfalls are beginning to become painfully apparent.

I went to https://connect.microsoft.com/programdetails.aspx?ProgramDetailsID=857[^] but it looks like open sign-up is over now. I signed up on the 17th I believe. The program started on the 18th and I don't think they allow the general public to sign up after it starts. Sorry about that! :rose: You could bug someone you know at Microsoft though. ;-P

Well to be honest I am and I am not anxious to get the service pack for 2005, because if the service pack for 2003 is anything to go by, they still need some time to get it right, as the service pack for 2003, introduced some unexplained errors in the compiliation of our product. Where It tells of of Compilation problem but does not reference any line or supply information as to what it pertains too. Im also experiencing slower comilation times since installing the service pack!!

I just went to http://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio, clicked the link to VS2005 SP1 Beta under Announcements, filled in the survey, and my request is now pending. I'll test it at home.

A beta of a service pack. Brilliant. I'm waiting for the Microsoft Windows Live Ultimate Vista Release Candidate 2 Service Pack 1 Beta.

Pretty bad isn't it? Given that they've had over 3 years to get it right! My policy these days is to avoid SPs until I absolutely need to apply one in order for something to work. However, for VS 2005 I may be a bit bolder given the sluggishness of the IDE. Plus I'm not using it much at the moment, so not much to break.:)
