Norton IS 2007 Parental Control

Word of warning, Norton has just released a upgrade to is suite of protection software, but what they fail to tell you is that they have removed all the parental control bits. Customer support can only seem to offer you a refund. I thought we are ment to going forward with security and control. Norton do not appear to have anyway of parents controling the content of media from the web(A big backwards step)
Have you looked at the new parental controls in MS Vista? Not saying you are or should move to MS Vista for them, was curious what you would think about their new built in features.

No I havn't as the kids aren't allowed to use my new toys, an I am more concurned about other features at the minute. They will get Vista next year as I degrade my current Vista machine to the Kids and I get a newer box for my bits.

I will never be so naive as to think that some piece of software I install is going to stop my kids from being able to access things I don't want them to. The only acceptable parental control in my book is supervision. Every thing else is just a smokescreen, useful to politicians, but not to parents.

You don't see a WTF in spawning hundreds of threads ?? Or using code found on places like codeproject.com in production applications ... Code that is most likely untested, or barely test, more often than not, not made by reputable developers/development groups/etc ?? .... Wow ...---WTF

NetNanny? BAH! :rolleyes: i've been able to get around that at school a few years ago...i'm not sure about the newer versions though... i'm thinking more like a proxy-based blocking service, set at router level and the router protected, IE control panel disabled....that way there's no user accessable parts on the system and no other way to get past the blocker.. Don't complain! Norton removing something from their 'software' is a major step forward. When they finally remove all the other features as well we can start to see the benefit. Phil

that would not really work on an old dell laptop that doesn't have an ethernet port, like one of mine...it's all wireless Roswell
