X| Good grief painful memories of childhood coming back. I have a condition called Keratoconus (see my blog) caused by rubbing my eyes when I was a teenager, which was caused by Blepharitis. My Blepharitis is largely gone now, it went away as I got older, I am left with the consequences though. Sounds like your son has Blepharitis, this is where the eyelids are crusty and blocked, and the eyelashes get stuck in your eye, and fall out alot. The combination of crusts and eyelashes in your eye cause you to rub. The constant rubbing can cause a whole world of pain you don't want to go near. I expect when your son reaches his early twenties the Blepharitis will clear up by itself, seem to be hormonal or something. So I would suggest the following in the interim 1. Have you tried clearing the blocked eyelids with steam and gentle massaging, usually works a treat for me. 2. Where that fails, use the Body Shop's Camomile makeup remover (don't know if you have the body shop in oz), it works alot better than the alternatives, because it actually breaks down oils rather than attempting to dilute them away. 3. You get _preservative free_ eye drops to wash the crap out, when it does actually get in there rather than letting him rub. The must be _preservative free_, no Benzalkonium Chloride, or it will actually get worse over time. Hope this was some help, my usually disclaimer applies, always consult your doctor etc, I am sure it will work out ok ... You are in my thoughts and prayers ...

Another tip is not to rub your eyes if you've handled chilli pepers (something I just found out last week) DOH!

Yep, he has blepharitis diagnosed by our optomertrist many years ago. It is not as bad as your description sounds and I have it too. The fact I wash my face heavily with soap cleans mine out well. For my son we were recommended baby shampoo on a flannel. When he does this all is good though he still rubs the crap out of them. Problem is, he and his mother don't remember to keep on top of this like I do, but I'm away at work so many nights it doesn't get done. He should be OK and I will finally be able to look at him without commenting about his eye. The lump was the size of a large pea or small grape. It was greatly deforming the look of his eye which at 9 isn't all that large (though as I tell him, he has a ginourmous head (like his Dad)).

Eyes are just one body part that you don't want to touch after handling peppers, especially habaneros. :((

Yeah, I was originally told to use, a q-tip + baby shampoo + sterile water to clean my eyelids. It really got me nowhere fast, it was frustrating to have to makeup this mixture. So I started using Novartis Lid Care instead, this was a really expensive alternative, I found that stuff from the body shop was the best. All the best

Have the quality of his tear film checked next time your in with doctor, its a simple test, his eyes may be dry or he _may_ be alergic to dust and pollen, like I was, so you may want to look at getting him something mild for that (I use a drop called vividrin occasionally). Either way you wanna stop him for rubbing his eyes if you can, I know it may sound silly but it really does lead to issues further down the road.

I've just eaten an entire 150g bag of Chilli flavoured crisps (potato chips?) while catching up on the day's postings on Code Project. This is odd for me, as I am not a big crisp eater. Reading the specification information it tells me I have just consumed 110% of my daily calory intake, and yet I am still medically classed as dangerously underweight. Go figure. I now plan to eat a 200g box of grapes, which were green, so my healthy food balance will be restored.

Eh, i went years in that category. It took a summer of lunch buffets (what's the prize for eating six plates of "chinese" food? A seventh plate of "chinese" food!) to correct that... and let me tell you, things swung a bit far in the other direction for a bit. Now, when i start feeling a bit too healthy, i start baking rich dessert pies... Up next: peacan.

My son has had a blockage in the eyelid of his left eye for the past couple of months. The creams and drops prescribed by the doctors haven't been fixing it. He has had these before, they are caused by him rubbing his eye and getting crap from his eyelashes or hand in the eye itself. As a 2 and 3 year old he had 3 that needed to be removed by a hospital procedure. Yesterday he went to the specialist who booked him in this morning to have this one removed as well. This time I don't have medical insurance so I have had to foot this one completely. Took a couple of hours off work to take him in to the hospital and the theatre. At 9 his imagination of what was going to happen had ran wild and freaked him out. I'm the only one who can keep him calm when he gets like this. Of course the doctor and then the hospital ran late. So I didn't make it into work at all. I have the next 2 days off and he goes to the specialist to get the eye patch off in the morning. The patch is probably the the thing that freaks him the most. He can't open his eye and it looks disgusting with blood and other crap weeping all over it. Not an attractive sight. Also I was down to my last 3 beers in the fridge. While I was having an afternoon sleep (before attending a 5 hour course tonight) my wife went to the bottlo and bought herself a bottle wine. Ignored me completely after buying both the kids some crap for being good. I have been forced to braek out my last 6 pack of Coopers Special Old Stout I have resisted drinking for the past 8 months. Problem is they aren't cooling down quick enough in the freezer.

My dad got kicked in they eye by a horse. Shattered all the bones around the eye and forced some into his brain cavity. Nothing like having your dad ask, "When you go to Wal-Mart can you pick me up an eye patch?"
