Have the powers that be at CP considered running a web hosting service themselves? With the knowledge and excellent advice from members and administrators, surely this could be a relatively simple thing to do and would bring in funding to further enhance CP as a whole. I would be more likely to choose CP web hosting rather than run the risk of signing up with some cowboy company.

I still remember having to write your own code in FORTRAN rather than be a cut and paste merchant being pampered by colour coded Intellisense - ahh proper programming - those were the days :)

hell, even if they were an inferrior host, as long as it meet my basic needs i'd sign up with it, just to support them.

If CP as a hosting service has the same errors, outages, and delays as CP as a website, then no friggin' way would I want to use their services. Sorry for the harsh words, folks. BTW, hosting is not that trivial. I use ServerBeach, and they have a variety of excellent online services, help desk, problem tickets, problem tracking, etc. I've found them to be excellent. Marc

Has CP performance really been that bad over the last few months? Exclusing planned downtime (like the recent move) I haven't noticed any of the old performance or reliability problems. I'll seconds SB though, their service is up there with the best, and their prices are not bad either.

Your kidding right. that's the most halarious thing i heard yet on CP. LMAO

You don't see a WTF in spawning hundreds of threads ?? Or using code found on places like codeproject.com in production applications ... Code that is most likely untested, or barely test, more often than not, not made by reputable developers/development groups/etc ?? .... Wow ...---WTF

Performance hasn't been bad, but I still get a rash of errors posting messages. So it's like inflation. Including oil prices, inflation is rampant. Excluding oil prices, inflation is reasonable. Marc

:~ To be fair, at least the hosting idea was within the realm of computers and CP already hosts CP, so the idea wasn't really that crazy.

I haven't seen a posting error in months and months. I bet having just said that I will get a ton of them trying to post this very message...
