...that Foley is both an alcoholic AND a victim of sexual abuse by a priest? I mean, like wow - despite the likelihood that these claims are false, those are the best reasons I've ever heard to explain why he is a child molester and pedophile. Next thing you know, he'll be blaming his actions on alien abduction experiences. The absurd-o-meter had to be replaced yesterday because it exploded in spectacular fashion when this news came out.

There comes a point in everyone's lives when they should stop blaming others for the problems they're facing and deal with them head on, like adults. It's too easy to shift blame for your actions to a third party and, therefore, avoid any consequences and no matter what has been done to you in the past there is no justification for taking your anger and frustration out on others under any circumstances.

I don't want to defend Foley, and I agree with the absurdity of it all, but as yet there is no evidence that the man has done anything other than send sexually explicite email and IMs to a 16 year old. As bad as it is, that hardly represents child molesting and pedophilia. There are still parts of the country were 16 is considered 'age of consent'. So, until we learn whether or not he has ever actually physically molested a child I think things should be kept in perspective.

        Thank God for disproportional force.

My ass. How many times have people looked the other way when evidence that something either has or is about to happen, only to find out later that the person went ahead and eventually committed (or tried to commit) a crime? As far as I'm concerned, sending these kinds of emails to children is the same thing as gathering up a colleciton of kiddie porn stuff. This guy was on the fast track to actually being a child molester, and if they nailed him before he actually did something like that, I say good on 'em. (Washington DC isn't one of those "16 is the legal age of consent" states.)

Then don't. There was obviously enough evidence to prompt him to resign within hours of its exposure. Whether or not he molested anybody might be up in the air, but he's certainly a pedophile and rightfully removed himself. I'm just glad he wasn't a Democrat because his actions won't be defended and justified (as in the cases of the at least 3 other Democrats who did the same thing and got away with it).

My ass right back at you. A 16 year old teenager is hardly a 'child'. Underage? Yes. A child? No. I have no problem with the man being thrown out of congress, I have no problem with him going to jail for what he has done. But the fact remains that what he is actually so far accused of is not as bad as someone acutally physically molesting an innocent child. Most of this evidence is three years old, there is no evidence that I've seen that he has done anything subsequent to that. To make anything more out of it than that is nothing but political hypocrisy[^]. If you want real absurdity, there it is.

Oh, bullshit, there is not a man alive who has not been sexually attracted to underage teenage girls. That does not make us child molesters. Certainly if we pursue those interests we should be punished, if not put in jail, but that doesn't change the simple reality of it.

You know how to tell when a politition is lieing? His lips are moving. I have long since stopped listening to my "representatives" in Washington D.C., as they have long since stopped listening to me. Should he be prosocuted? Probably, but then so should many others. That's my 2 cents.

Yeah, the Democrats never try stuff like this *cough*Dan Rather*cough*. From the looks of it, the Republicans were aware of innocuous email exchanges that didn't indicate any luridness. The IMs, which were 3 years old, were apparently kept under wraps until 1 month prior to a pivitol election. Now that's being spun by the left for people who don't know the difference between an IM and an email in an attempt to bring down the Republicans. This is consistent with past Democrat tactics and Stan raises a good question. Who exactly did keep the IMs under wrap?

Sorry, but the day and age when the dems could push this kind of propaganda as 'news' is long past. Get used to it. It is certainly the dems who provided the information to ABC news timed precisely to maximize the political impact. They've been setting on the more damning information for months, if not years. If you are stupid enough, and brainwashed enough, to believe otherwise I feel sorry for you. The democrats are evil scumbags who live off of this very kind of vile political treachery. They've done it for decades and it is absolutely pathetic that they continue to get away with it by people such as yourself.

Problem is, a lot of adults play the "blame others" game, too. I don't think age is as much a factor as honesty and integrity are.

...that Foley is both an alcoholic AND a victim of sexual abuse by a priest? I mean, like wow - despite the likelihood that these claims are false, those are the best reasons I've ever heard to explain why he is a child molester and pedophile. Next thing you know, he'll be blaming his actions on alien abduction experiences. The absurd-o-meter had to be replaced yesterday because it exploded in spectacular fashion when this news came out.

There is a word in the English language that I try to use as infrequently as possible. It is excuse. How or why our society has come to accept an excuse when someone fucks up royally and to then simply move on, is beyond me. If these allegations against Foley are proven, he deserves jail time, big time. Regardless of the alcohol or priests.

Oh how I love watching you guys fall over yourselves defending this seriously damaged guy. 16 years old - not a child. Innocuous e-mails. Democratic conspiracy. Absolutely pathetic. Foley has serious problems, the R leadership had very clear signs, but instead chose to supress it. That's the conspiracy. That it came out shortly before the election is completely the fault of the Republicans. They could have gotten out in front of this, but didn't. Best of all - the conservative Washington Times Resign, Mr. Speaker[^] has called for Hastert's resignation.

Bullshit. The republican leadership was ahead of the issue - they had dealt with it and didn't surpress anything - unless, again, you are suggesting that they should have gone on a witch hunt against all homosexual congressmen based on virtually no evidence at all. Is that what they should have done? Was Foley supposed to be forced to resign because he was a homosexual and had a friendly conversation with a page. On what basis were the republicans supposed to do more than they did? The only surpressing being done was whoever was holding on to the IMs. How fucking stupid do you have to be to not understand that? I hope you're happy with your scumbag party that can only win elections with these kind of scams and not by debating the issues.
