How many times have people looked the other way when evidence that something either has or is about to happen, only to find out later that the person went ahead and eventually committed (or tried to commit) a crime? As far as I'm concerned, sending these kinds of emails to children is the same thing as gathering up a colleciton of kiddie porn stuff. This guy was on the fast track to actually being a child molester, and if they nailed him before he actually did something like that, I say good on 'em. (Washington DC isn't one of those "16 is the legal age of consent" states.)

Whether or not he molested anybody might be up in the air, but he's certainly a pedophile and rightfully removed himself. Underage? Yes. A child? No. I have no problem with the man being thrown out of congress, I have no problem with him going to jail for what he has done. But the fact remains that what he is actually so far accused of is not as bad as someone acutally physically molesting an innocent child. Most of this evidence is three years old, there is no evidence that I've seen that he has done anything subsequent to that. The republican leadership was ahead of the issue - they had dealt with it and didn't surpress anything - unless, again, you are suggesting that they should have gone on a witch hunt against all homosexual congressmen based on virtually no evidence at all. Is that what they should have done? Was Foley supposed to be forced to resign because he was a homosexual and had a friendly conversation with a page. On what basis were the republicans supposed to do more than they did?
