Oh my god! Those poor children saw a breast carved in stone on a statue. They'll be scarred for life. At least until they become Congressional pages. Then their Congressman can set them straight. Or the opposite.

There was a discussion about this on the JREF forums a while ago. The report they linked had some additional details, including: "The district rejected McGee's request in August to transfer to another Frisco school. They said they didn't want to give her a chance to move elsewhere without addressing other issues, including lesson-plan preparation." I don't doubt that some fundie asshat moaned about the statue though.

I know eliminating this kind of parents is not the solution but... could we have a second thought about it? Their children will be plagued with all sort of troubles, perhaps even voting Republican. Let's save the Kids!

Jesus Christ! This is right in my back yard :(. I've lived in Fisco for 6 years now. I read the local paper and I don't remember seeing this. Just another reason why I won't send my boy to public schools around here.

The US may well have been built and run primarily by christians but the current crop of fundementalists can take no credit. 1. What's wrong with a sculpture of a breast? 2. How many 5th graders haven't already seen photos of the real thing? 3. Why won't the school board explain their actions? 4. Why isn't the principal accountable if he allowed the trip? 5. Why aren't the parents (who all signed consents) accountable? 6. What did parents expect to find at an art museum?

Actually the current definition of "fundamentalism" was adopted pretty much universally by Christians until leftists decided that religion and science were incompatible throughout the last century. Instead of religion dying per their plans, a philosophical war began.

I've been to Texas numerous time, have friends and family who live there and this doesn't fit with anybody I've ever met there. I suspect that there's some element not revealed. Like maybe it wasn't just a nude statue, but was suggestive in some sort of way. Maybe the teacher made some lewd comments. Maybe the teacher just sucked and they were looking for an excuse to can her. I think the story, as it stands, is ludicrous...So ludicrous that I don't buy it at face value.

I happen to live in Frisco. I have to be honest and say that I am only somewhat suprised by this. I didn't think we had more than our share of bible thumping prudes, but we at least have a good amount. I tend to aggree with the previous post however, the parent did sign a permission slip, and he or she should have done their research as to what would be seen at the museum.

I agree with you. But, the parent did sign a permission slip. Rather than blame the teacher or the principle I think the parents need to research these things if they are so eaisly offended.

I happily repeat it for you: The parents had signed permission slips allowing their children to take part in the field trip. The parents didn't bother to make an informed decision (which would admittedly be hard), but instead of taking responsibility for their mistake, they blame someone else. But of course, for you everything is Government vs. The Man.
