it is immaterial and an assinine assumption - that it was fundamentalist Christians and that they're ruining the country. what you have is a school administration that handled parents complaints inappropriately. secondly you're being critical of the school board for not being more forthcoming when you have absolutley no knowledge of the facts. the school board may in fact be protecting the teacher for behavior that they dont' care to share publically.

The US may well have been built and run primarily by christians but the current crop of fundementalists can take no credit. 1. What's wrong with a sculpture of a breast? 2. How many 5th graders haven't already seen photos of the real thing? 3. Why won't the school board explain their actions? 4. Why isn't the principal accountable if he allowed the trip? 5. Why aren't the parents (who all signed consents) accountable? 6. What did parents expect to find at an art museum?

Actually the current definition of "fundamentalism" was adopted pretty much universally by Christians until leftists decided that religion and science were incompatible throughout the last century. Instead of religion dying per their plans, a philosophical war began.

Nothing from my view. But then you're applying your sensibilities on a distant community. I'm sure there are numerous statues you might find offensive like, say, of the 10 Commandments.

        47%.

Frankly, the whole article lacks explanation.

Because he's the king and that's how he rolls.

Fully clothed statues. Basically all I can say about this is that it sounds like a small bit of the story. I've been to Texas numerous time, have friends and family who live there and this doesn't fit with anybody I've ever met there. I suspect that there's some element not revealed. Like maybe it wasn't just a nude statue, but was suggestive in some sort of way. Maybe the teacher made some lewd comments. Maybe the teacher just sucked and they were looking for an excuse to can her. I think the story, as it stands, is ludicrous...So ludicrous that I don't buy it at face value.

How can you make this 'assupmtion' "when you have absolutley no knowledge of the facts? the school board may in fact be protecting the teacher for behavior that they dont' care to share publically." ;) This isn't the only article I've read about the incident. In other articles, the teacher has been quite open and forthcoming. She is very well respected locally and is stunned by the whole incident.

Yes, Jeffersonianism is so evil! Parents making decisions for their children! Oh, if only we could have a centralized federal authority force the parents of Texas to send their children to see Piss Christ! That is the only way to govern a society!

            Thank God for disproportional force.

              From the article:

Officials with the Frisco school district declined to comment on the matter.

How is this legal? They are serving elected positions and don't feel that they need to explain their actions? Fundamentalist christians will be the death of this nation.

I happen to live in Frisco. I have to be honest and say that I am only somewhat suprised by this. I didn't think we had more than our share of bible thumping prudes, but we at least have a good amount. I tend to aggree with the previous post however, the parent did sign a permission slip, and he or she should have done their research as to what would be seen at the museum.

I happily repeat it for you: The parents had signed permission slips allowing their children to take part in the field trip. The parents didn't bother to make an informed decision (which would admittedly be hard), but instead of taking responsibility for their mistake, they blame someone else. But of course, for you everything is Government vs. The Man.

I also live in Texas very close to Frisco (a very upscale suburb of Dallas) and all I can think of is that it was a holy-roller Baptist who complained. Some of the Baptists (not all) are total flame-outs when it comes to sense and sensibilities. Maybe they thought the kids were going to see "Walt Disney" art. Anyone who's been in Texas long enough knows that the Dallas Art Museum is one of the best. Too bad there was ONE narrow-minded idiot to spoil it all for everyone else. As an example, I had some neighbors (Baptists) who told their kids that drinking beer would kill them! So when they see a grown-up drinking a beer, they assume that person is now going to die. Sadly, these kids were also home-schooled. Maybe the parent(s) who complained should think about that as an option.
