I'm not sure which I find more irritating, Henize's post in the Soapbox or the fact that it's still there :mad:. I posted a comment[^] there but I think it's worth reposting here: if someone defaces my house, I clean it up. This place belongs to all of us. I'm fanatical about cleaning out unwanted posts from the Awasu forums. It sends a strong message that posts are gone and their account deleted, sometimes minutes after the post is made. I can just imagine them trying to submit a second post only to find that their account has disappeared :laugh:

You know we have a few choices with stuff like this. I used to pit-bull these guys and took flack for it. I can track them down using some sophisticated stuff and put the fear of God in them which seemed to get me a lot of 1 votes. OR We can all just take a breather and 'Abuse' then ignore it. I think there's a huge rash of this stuff happening hear because of the reaction. We act so offended and shocked when in reality the internet is like a bathroom stall. You're going to see a lot of crap put there by morons. Can you track the morons down and tell them to stop, can you erase it, can you make the paint moron proof? Yes to all but ultimately it's just one moron after the next feeding the tactics of the next moron. We've recently acquired malware coder yet another moron. He's getting so much attention from us that his antics will only continue as he's getting a rise out of it. We have an abuse button and I'm sure that Chris is looking at this stuff going, "What the hell do I do about this?" followed by, "I can spend my time tracking down all this insanity or I can spend my time adding value to CP." I mean he can only do so much. Either he grants "Delete or Hide" status to some of us (the choices are obvious for who) or he just lets it eb with the tide. The insanity will continue so long as it gets the attention it's getting. Didn't your mother tell you, "Don't scratch at your insect bites! It will just make them worse."? I believe she did and I believe she was right. Quit scratching the insect bites and the insects will go away to find people who will scratch them elsewhere. When I was in high school we called this type of behavior a "Desperate Cry for Attention". Folks! A moron can swear we've all seen and heard worse from our friends and laughed about it. I think it's time for everyone to step back and say, "It's a small thing." I don't know about the rest of you but I come back here for the dialog from Jordan, Shog, Taka, Brian, Paul, Chris, Clifton, Jeffry, Roswell and the rest. They are the people that keep me coming back. Trolls on the other hand... I see what you're getting at. If after the guy is banned, he begins creating accounts just to post crap there, then I would understand quickly removing his posts before anyone replies to them. However, the first offense deserves just a banning of the account, just so we can see what happened. Deleting the post goes too far, IMO.

Chris said he implemented that as safety mechanism. As someone mentioned the other day, the Spam and Abuse links are a bit too close for comfort to the voting links.

I hear what you're saying but I respectfully disagree. My point wasn't so much that he made the post he did or our reaction to it or anything like that, it's the fact that we let it stay there. When Chris asked about the future of the Soapbox, I voted for moderation and I still feel that way. You're right, these people do it for the attention and the reaction they get. So I think the best thing to do is delete it. They put crap like that up, it's gone. Do it again, it's gone. Once more, it's gone. It gets pretty boring, pretty quick. No reaction, no responses, no hackles raised, just a clean, clinical delete. It's not like there would be a shortage of people in any timezone willing to moderate. It's just a question whether you think it's worth the effort. Trolling is one thing but this is completely inappropriate. I know that I'm embarrassed to be part of a community that lets this kind of thing stay on the site, even if happens to get pushed off the front page.

It sometimes seems that Henize is on drugs. Some of his posts seem half way coherent, but others sound like he is on something (like the one you were commenting on).

Nope. Much more subtle. It would take someone a lot of reading and thinking to grasp it. More reading than anything. Where I went to school they had a class that touched on it briefly. I first discovered it in real life while working at Micron Technology.
