When your software is the cause of a major problem, loss of major money, massive hours for many people, and/or any other very noticeable situation that puts a bad spotlight on things. Luckily it is the integration of other work into mine, but I don't use that as an excuse... I integrated it, I tested it, I take some responsibility for it.... But self-flagellation is no longer for me. I get to work monday, though it is normally a holiday, as I told my boss... now we have to do our best to fix it, and fix it ASAP and earn back a better spotlight. With any luck, we may get back the view we had on Tuesday when we were the only people with their software working 100%.... unfortunately, we also turned out to be the cause of why the others were not.... My software handled the erroneous massive interrupts without blinking much... the others didn't fair too well....

It doesn't help anything, but at that point things are kinda beyond help.

Unfortunately I probably wouldn't stop. Been that route... guzzling alcohol like I do sodas now. Nope, I need to do it without alcohol, that would be one cure that I might not walk away from.

Ah, sorry then, didn't realize that. Well then, out of the various things i resort to in situations like this, a solitary hike through a desolate area is probably the least self-destructive.

You fix it. Even if fixing it didn't matter at all. You still fix it. Because it will stand and stand a long time that you at least fixed the problem. Even if it only matters to you. Fix it. If you need more compelling reasons here's the one that you cannot argue with. The type of person that you are means that you will fix it regardless. It's the risk we all take when coding. Something *can* go wrong. When it does we fix it and then we hope the fix was enough. But Brickley! You DA Man! You'll get it done right and make it look easy.:rose:

You don't see a WTF in spawning hundreds of threads ?? Or using code found on places like codeproject.com in production applications ... Code that is most likely untested, or barely test, more often than not, not made by reputable developers/development groups/etc ?? .... Wow ...---WTF

                        • You get up the next day, go in to work, and give it hell until it's right.

Well, obviously it is too late to make it look easy. But we will fix it, and I have plans in place to make sure we detect this in the future no matter who on the team creates the module. It will be fixed, and modules placed for the future to be able to see when this happens again. Although we have test projects, and I try to push them, the major application has diagnostic capability in and of itself so it becomes the test application also. The next mistake will have to be something different because each time I find something like this (this is the first time outside my lab since I was much younger), the application gets smarter.

resign is the manly thing to do.

You don't see a WTF in spawning hundreds of threads ?? Or using code found on places like codeproject.com in production applications ... Code that is most likely untested, or barely test, more often than not, not made by reputable developers/development groups/etc ?? .... Wow ...---WTF

abandon the project, leave the problem with someone else, place greater risk of future problems by not returning the knowledge gained from this, increasing the chance of the same problem happening again. hmmmm... In short.... No.
