Hello guys, I haven't been to CP for ages, and now I see it has got new design! :-) And it looks pretty cool. I would like to turn one rather small room (8 sq. meters) at home into a nice home office, used only for part time work for 2 people (that is to work from home when I'm sick, or do some work in the evenings, etc). I've got some ideas but thought that it might be useful to consult with experts first. Do you know if there are any interior design studios that do this remotely? Most of them seem to walk in, discuss, photograph, provide some scenarios, calculate costs, recommend suppliers, etc. I don't need all that - I would just like them to recommend the layout and eventually create a 3D visualization after I provide them with my requirements and a floorplan of the empty room (walls, window and door locations, dimensions). As always, thanks for any ideas in advance! Rado

Why go to the expense? Get a cheap desk or use cardboard boxes and mock up the room. See how YOU like it, not somebody else. (I have a very nice computer desk, so I'd just put it in the room and if I didn't like the arrangement, I'd move the desk. For me, the deciding factor is a combination of the locations of any windows and doors. I've found I can't have a window behind me and prefer not to have my back to the door (not for paranoid reasons, but because it's easier to talk to someone who steps in.)

I agree, I do alot of work from home and a similar approach. The expense you'll go to getting interior designers out would probably be better spent on a more comfortable chair/bar fridge/printer/fax/whatever.

Thanks for the idea, Joe. The trouble is that I will probably have to get a custom sized desk - the room is small and none of the desks fits very well (I mean I can't put 2 tables for 2 people side by side, or get one wide enough). So once I have the desk, I won't really be able to move it. :-) Rado

I guess you're right... I was thinking of one of these instead of a classic office chair: see pic[^] It's supposed to be perfect for back (you kneel on it), and I was already getting some backaches recently from siting in front of the computer for hours. Rado

I tried one of those chairs once. It left me in agony.

My partner has back problems and he has been using one of those chairs (similar) for probably over a year now; I think it is better? I think they are awesome, I want one. I find sitting on a normal chair really uncomfortable after any length of time so I have to try and sit cross legged and stuff... which doesn't work that well. Half the time I at work I am distracted by the fact that I can't sit comfortably and my legs ache. I think one of those chairs would work for me because kneeling is comfortable generally, and this is supported, extra-good kneeling :) Anwyway, I really want one :( You'll probably want to borrow one to sit on for a few hours or something though to check it out.
