Hey Folks, I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with software registration services? My company has developed a product we would like to distribute trial version of, and allow users to register the product after the trial period. We don't really have the resources to set this up in house (registration server, etc.) so I am looking for a turn key type of solution that I can just drop into my product. Anyone have experience with any registration services that could recommend a couple of sites to look at? Thanks, Aaron

Just cut-n-paste it, and forget it.

You may take a look at the service/products at http://www.cryptoGateway.com, which can process and sell any digital products, including softwares. You can choose to sell them on cryptogateway.com or on your own named site hosted there (we can buid a self created/managed site framework that has the same internal functionality as the above mentioned site for you, with a fraction of normal charges). The digital data is encrypted and the access rights are distributed by your company using our technology. It is possible to set a time limit on the trial version, which do not require a potential user to contact your company in anyway other than downloading the installation package. If he/she decide to use your products, he/she need to order a permanent (or long term) private access token from your company with a advertised fee paid, the registering is done at this stage. The sale system is a turn key solution. Then your company send the access token(s) to the user via e-mail (also end to end encrypted and digitally signed). Since the data is encrypted and access controlled, the user also need to install an security gateway server of CryptoGateway which handles the decryption, user identity authentication/management, copy protection and management (the product can be shared, but only one user can use a copy of it at one point of time), etc. The current version of it is provided as a freeware, but the user need to order their global digital id (GID) from us. It maybe better to have the producers to order GID in bulk from us and distribute them to the ordering users. For softwares, native Windows applications as whole and .Net compoennts (assemblies) can be access controlled at present. If you are interested, take a look at the site at above on which serveral of our products are processed in such a way (Crypto Distributor, X-Script Generator, Media Player, etc.). The article here[^] also provides some introduction of the ideas. By the way, if you are interested in globalization (multi-lingual), we have automated processing softwares build by ourselfs, talk to us, if you are interested. We can process MFC based C++ programs and C# programs. (As you can see, our products are globalized). Regards -- modified at 19:13 Monday 9th October, 2006

We use ShareIt because we sell globally and they are very good with sales outside the U.S. as well as inside the U.S. http://www.shareit.com/ Not too long ago a company called Digital River (If I recall correctly) pretty much bought up all the independant registration companies so it's become pretty much a one company show no matter who you choose with few exceptions.

Aaron, I'm a satisfied http://www.eSellerate.net[^] user. It should do all you want. Also I suggest you use JoS for this type of inquiry. See http://discuss.joelonsoftware.com/?biz[^] You'll see this issue discussed there with regular monotony.

Yes this is indeed worrying. There are a few new'ish players though. One is Plimus? that folks seem to be happy with. I'm with eSellerate which was one of the recent DR acquisitions.

Dear Blank, I looked at your site. I suggest you find someone who is experienced in writing clear, comprehensible and succinct English. In addition I couldn't see anything that did what eSellerate, ShareIt etc. does. If you are trying to sell to folks using these services you have a problem.

Hello ... I am not "Blank":). Maybe you did not have time to find the differences, since it is quite a complicated system which takes to know, that is fine with me. The goal here is sell digital products not to confirm to some patterns. If you claim I can not do what the sites you mentioned can do, then list a few facts you found, not blank claims. If you care to dig, you may find we can do a lot more than those sites in certain areas (e.g. the distribution system). I did read one of your posts elsewhere in which you mentioned that the only way to protect software seems to be to "phone home" frequently, our solutions do not need to. It's essentially a decentralized solution. That is one of the difference if it is of interest to know.
