Took the box back to ComCast and told them to turn it off (kept the internet) I was tired of the bill and nothing to watch. I am suprised at how much time I have been spending in front of the TV so hopefully I can find a better way to spend my time now.
Surf the internet! :cool: When the withdrawal is over, just listen to your collegues. How often the watercoolr talk is "that cool movie yesterday on TV"? (I'm without TV now for about 7 years - it happened exactly twice in that time).

Did the same thing a few years ago (Dutch television sucks big time). Now I watch TV occasionally though, some things on Discovery Channel I like: the Myth Busters and those Orange County Chopper guys are pretty funny. I wish there was a .NET Channel!

How much are they gouging you for that? Every time i've looked into getting 'Net service through Comcast, i've found the price of their unbundled service nearly as much as the service + basic digital cable (and i gave that up years ago, after months spent cursing the quality).

I think I will save a heart stopping 15 dollars a month but I cannot seem to give up the speed of the cable internet connection. I just felt that I was picked apart with fees. Basic cable and the internet was running me about 95.00 a month after they add in all of the universal fees. I could save up to a whopping 20.00 but I am not sure just yet.

Trust me, a few years down the road when the habbit/addiction is gone, if you ever bother to watch a few mins of TV you'll wonder why you used to zone/drone out to the stupid crap on it in the first place. Oh sure, there may be the occasional decent show, but by and large most of it is stupid crap that people just veg out to day after day. Welcome to step one of reclaiming your brain. ;)

I use to feel that way myself. For the most part I would only watch the news and movies. Never seemed to be anything worth watching when I sat down. And then... A few years ago, we got a TiVo and things changed. I never watch TV live anymore other than the news. We have many shows that we watch regularly and every year we try out all the new pilots. This year we have picked up a Jericho (about post nuclear war), Shark (law show), Heros (can be funny at times!), Men in Trees (comedy). These go along with our other shows we regularly watch such as the CSI's, Monk, Phsyc, close to home, criminal minds, and a few others. On top of the regular shows, we pick up old series that we never tried to watch before. We have went through all the old "grace under fire" and are just about through all the "Mad about you" and starting on "King of Queens". They are little no nothing comedies, but can be funny at times. Anyway, without the Tivo, cable TV (Direct TV for us) was worthless. Now we find a number of intersting and intertaining shows which are recorded so that we can see them when we have the time. Works really great that way, TV does not force in on our lives, we take it when we want. Sorry to hear the sad news of disconnecting ;)

My wife got me hooked on King of Queens re-runs about a year ago, and gotta say, it's hill-arious. Pretty much laugh my ass off every episode. :laugh: If I had a dime for everytime we said "that's it! We're cancelling cable", I'd have about $3.40.

Yeah, with the Tivo, we have finally made value out of the tube. All these older sitcoms can be fun to watch when you know you will see every one, with gaps when you were busy. Not sure what we will record though after we get through all the decent old sitcoms :)

Great idea. My wife and I did not own a television for the first three years we were married, and I think our marriage is that much better for it. 15 years later, we are now TVless again except for a Plextor PVR attached to an iMac. The best thing about not owning a TV was the reaction I would get when the Cable / Sat vendors call to offer service... Telemarketer: We'd like to offer you a great deal on cable service. Me: I don't own a television. Telemarketer: Uh, I.., Uh, (pregnant pause) Uh, I guess you don't need cable then. Bye. (Of course this was before the days of broadband).
