Why Firefox 2.0 Rocks

I can install VS2005 and use it without restart. So?
Clickok wrote:

That is because the distribution size is small.

I would consider this a bad thing. I am sick of having to manually remove the leftover after uninstalling an application.

I am glad to know that your website is nicest in Firefox. But if you are implying that your website isn't nice under IE, you have a big problem. I am not againsting Firefox, but I think it just isn't as good as everyone seems to think.

Irelevent in this context. But, even then, I installed Visual Studio Express last week, and it made me restart. It just depends on whether any of the files that it wants to replace is in use. But, you have to accept that Firefox developers have taken the effort to make sure that there are no system files being replaced.

It shows clear direction. A small executable is an essential feature of a web-based distribution scheme. It is a big plus -- There are still a number of people using dialup connections. Also, there is no *fooling* the user with an installer that is 1MB in size, only to find that the installer has to download another 100 MB.

Excellent point. I think Ubuntu Linux's Package Manager is the best in this regard. It gives you the options - "removal" -- removing only application files, and "complete-removal" -- removing everything including user preferences.

I have no idea what others think. But, I use FireFox with an Ad-blocker extension called Adblock with a filter called Filterset.G. In my opinion, that extension alone gives you enough reason for using FireFox. There are a number of things that are not properly supported in Firefox -- for example, dynamic fonts. There are pros and cons to FF and IE -- it is an individual preference based on the feature set. I think that Firefox team is more responsive to the needs of the users than the IE team. Thomas

IE takes forever to stop loading a page when you hit stop, sometimes it won't stop at all. Firefox stops immediately.

I've had the exact opposite experience many times. In the last few days, I've had Firefox stall so bad I had to shut it down. At least twice a month I have to resort to use End Task in Task Manager. With IE, it's more about once every two months though I can't remember the last time I had to use it; I think it was sometime during the summer.

Installation 1) Windows restart not needed (IE7 requires a long restart) 2) Take less than 1 minute to install (IE7 took almost 5-10 minutes) 3) Even I removing the previous versions, Firefox maintained my settings and add-ons (IE7 I need set the home page again) Using 1) FAST!!! (IE7 SLOW!!!) 2) Unobtrusive Syntax Checker (I will post in CP with Firefox - less typos!) 3) My website is nicest in Firefox (IE7 is not standards compliant - not fixed the table height problems yet...) 4) I talked before what is FAST??? (IE is in each version more slow...) Cheers...

I haven't installed FF2 yet, I'll try and find time for it this afternoon, but I did install IE7 yesterday and have a couple of comments to make:
Clickok wrote:
1)IE7 requires a long restart
The restart after installing IE7 was no different from any other restart for me? It took about twenty seconds to the login screen, and three/four to the desktop from there.
Clickok wrote:
2)IE7 took almost 5-10 minutes
5 minutes was about right for me. I can remember because I had to close my CodeProject window and was just starting to get the withdrawl twitches.
Clickok wrote:
3)IE7 I need set the home page again
It remembered mine, along with all my other settings (autocomplete, saved passwords, browsing history, etc). The initial first load went to a 'run once' homepage, but only for the first time and clicking on the home button took me back.
Clickok wrote:
IE7 SLOW!!! [and] IE is in each version more slow
Compared to IE6, my previous main browser (I use a lot of SharePoint sites) I have noticed no real difference either way. But then to be honest I have never noticed any speed difference between IE6 and FF1.5 either.

As a web developer it would be your responsibility to make sure your sites work with the browsers, not the other way round. There will always be small incompatabilities between browsers.

You mean Firefox stops the animation instantly...

It always amazes me that people even compare Firefox to IE. I always find that a Firefox addict is in general an MS hater. Get over it. Firefox doesn't even come close. If you like it, great, but I could care less. And for you MS haters... you would still be chiseling your message on stone if it wasn't for Bill Gates and MS.... go program a Mac or something.

Sorry... do you wish what I compare with ...?

Not, I love my Windows Server 2003 and Visual Studio 2005. I hate Vista and IE. Just being realism...

You don't care? Why do you replied then?

Installation 1&2) Heaven forbid you step away from the computer for a few minutes and experience what is called "real life". 3) OMG the horror! Though it remembered my start page. Using 1) It turns out they are equally as fast on my computer 2) Too bad it doesn't have an obtrusive grammer checker. 3) Odd my website looks nicest in IE (standards are defined by market share, not idealists) 4) Umm, wow... they really need a grammer checker.

Even the very best tools in the hands of an idiot will produce something of little or no value. - Chris Meech on IdiotsI think you mean to say for USING : 3)Odd my website looks nicest in IE (standards are defined by market share, not idealists) That the standard produced by the W3C are not the ones you realy work to, I work to the W3C ones and my sites look the same on all the different browsers. I think you seriously need to redo either the style sheeting on your site or create two stylesheets, one that will look good in IE, and one in FireFox/Netscape, I can provide some javascript to connect the two styles into your pages and flip between them depending on the browser. -- modified at 7:14 Saturday 28th October, 2006

I installed the RC3 of firefox yesterday. 1) All my bookmarks have been erased. Both from the bookmark menu and from the the bar I created under my menu bar. 2) I can't closed empty tabs. 3) In fact, I can't even USE tabs; everything loads up in the first tab. 4) The height of my tabs are now doubled taking up even more real estate on my screen. 5) The search bar doesn't work. 6) I can't "install" any search engines into the search bar so its totally broken and un-usable. 7) That's as far as I got since I'm so frustrated that I don't want to use it anymore. 8) I'm hoping I can roll-back to 1.5 or else I'm going to switch to using IE7 full-time. Sure it takes longer to install but it lets me actually use the features it has implemented... Firefox 2.0 does NOT. 9) I'm glad you like it. It looks as if, after 6+ years, I'm finally going back to being an IE person. chris choyce http://thechoyce.net

Firefox 2.0 is really cool... like their previous versions. Once I started using FF, I have never looked back to IE. It still maintains its LIGHT weight installer, SPEED of browsing, and of course we can TRUST the security features, pop up blocking etc. We should really appreciate the effort they have taken to keep the interface easy to use for existing IE users. Just started using FF2 yesterday, the look and feel is different, and would post more on it later... I HAVE JUST ADDED FF2 TO MY TOOLKIT CD. C YA Biju Raman K from Bangalore, India.
