She isn't talking because of her problems, she is talking about her problems just to fulfill her need to talk. Don't think like a man when you listen to a woman, think like a woman. Men aren't mind readers, and women don't talk to resolve problems. They talk to share their state of mind, it's their nature. Took me 20 years to figure it out, Now, if I can only understand the next thing on my list... Karell

Okay, in a cublicle nearby two girls have been talking about the one girl's boyfriend problems for about 20 minutes now. I have an ear infection and can't wear my headphones. I want to go over there and say, "If you spend as much time communicating to your boyfriend what you are communicating to your friends you probably wouldn't have these problems. Men aren't mind readers."

We are - just see with how few talking groups of men go by. But what goes on in a womens head scares us to death, so we turn it off around them.

Well - *I'm SORRY* Just because you didn't pick up on that just means that you aren't the stereotype woman. Which, in my book (and most men), is a good thing. Hang in there, the day is almost over you can go home and give that ear a rest away from your talkative co-worker. Personally, I hate cube farms, I'm sure that you will agree that they aren't the best for concentration and productivity. If I have my way, I'd be working in a box (sound-wise). I'm not against communication but there is a reason why we use the telephone and not intercoms, it's to filter out irrelevant noise and distractions and allow us to focus on what we should be doing. And hell, to be honest I'd have to agree with you, if she'd talk to her boyfriend a bit more instead of to her co-workers, she probably wouldn't have so many problems. But if you tell her that you will be removing a nice opportunity for her to get some attention. Maybe that's what she's really after...

Start singing Christmas carols. Or whistling, preferably slightly off-key. They'll move...

They'd never be happy with simple answers like "Yes", "No" or "OK". Ignore would not be an option, but "Retry" might work from time to time.

I've always had a reputation for being a somewhat, er, colorful character, and I make it a point to maintain that. Comes in handy for times like these. Although it's a very mild example of what I'm known to do when confronted with the incompetent or inconsiderate, in this case I'd simply stick my head out the cube and (very loudly) tell them to move along so that I could go back to sleep. Most clueless people are also :baaaa!:. One good bark usually does the trick. :-D

Any man who claims to understand the plural, doesn't know what he is talking about, just as any women who claims to understand the plural. If you are very lucky, and very skillful, and very attentive, you might understand one, the one you are with. And in the end, that is the only one that counts. :)

Too true... too true.. And even this is taking a lifetime. Albeit, its definately worth the effort. :)

They'd never be happy with simple answers like "Yes", "No" or "OK". Ignore would not be an option, but "Retry" might work from time to time.

"Yes, No, Whatever". We nearly coded that for one of our support ladies at my one client.
