Does anyone know of anything like CodeProject for linux/Unix programming ? I know there is slashdot, and SourceForge, but neither are really dedicated to programming articles like CodeProject. And slashdot tends to get a bit tedious after a bit. If there is not would there be any folks here interested in getting some people together to try and set something up ?
I would love to have a set of articles that explain Linux programming for a windows programmer. I feel that Chris would be more than happy to take some articles on that topic.

I agree ! I began to work with Linux and Qt, and I didn't find any site like CodeProject. You have tons of individual site, but it is the hell to find what you really need.

The sites listed by other replies, or by yourself, are good, but I understand the need for a forum based method of asking questions about linux code. The only ones I've found so far have been perlmonks.org, and use.perl.org. Obviously, as the names imply, it's only useful if you code in Perl. I'd love to see a *NIX C-based forum crop up, or even an all-purpose forum for linux coding. PS: there is also www.javajunkies.org, but as I haven't frequented there, i can't give much input on it... but more importantly, it's down at the moment due to technical problems ):

If I hadn't have been distracted, I was going to post the exact same question a few days ago. I use Linux for my personal projects, and I would love to see something like this come together. So, I've created a Yahoo group so we can discuss it without having to scroll through Lounge posts. Please note the silly name is temporary - it's just so we can discuss the feasibility of proceeding here. The group is called LinuxProject. :) linux-project at yahoogroups dot com. And we had to try and find how to do the equivalent of FindFirstFile/FindNextFile. A complete pain in the but searching through all sorts of crap to find it when a simple article probably could have set up a demo in minutes !

Well, I think it shouldn't be specific to just Linux, but also incorporate Unix. I did the whole Linux run a while back, but I still prefer FreeBSD and only use Linux when I have no choice. Has anyone actually tried this ? I can't seem to get friggin Yahoo to "verify" my email adresses so I can't join the group ? I have a fair amount of experience with using SourceForge. Maybe we could start a new project there called the LinuxProject - they have all the serivices we would need like PHP, MySQL, CVS, web hosting, and much more. We could start the project there and then if we find another host, etc we could move later on. Any thoughts ?

Hmmmm. I've had a Yahoo ID for a long time now, so I don't know what the problem is... Is yours a new ID and they're trying to send a confirmation to you or something? Regarding SourceForge, sure we could start it there. I'm sure they'll turf us out long before we get anywhere near the traffic CP does. But you're right, they have all of that stuff. (My personal site has all that stuff too, but you have to pay for the database... but we could host there if necessary. Not sure if I mentioned that in my previous post.) And anyways, the development we do FOR the site would no doubt be useful to someone else - so SourceForge is a great place to start. :) Now, who knows PHP? :) I had a quick look at it and it doesn't look tough.
