    It certainly is a fine example of sheer, arrogant waste. They removed thousands of trees, just so that their name could be read from orbit?

      Or maybe the trees were planted that way. A nazi forester did this during the nazi era in Germany: it only shows in fall[^]. Needless to say, the forest was chopped down not too long ago when it was discovered.

        Apparently (after a bit of googling): I found this interesting image when I was looking at our Ranch. It turns out that the gentlemen whose last name is displayed bought the land and logged all the Pine trees except for the ones that make up his name. Its about 1.5 miles from the beginning to the end. Marc

          Hmm Luecke also means "Gap" in German - it somehow fits :-)

                The surrounding areas for miles and miles seem to be logged in neat rectangular plots so I would guess it is probably a managed forest?

                          I'm a bit concerned that his last name is phonetically similar to mine. According to the family history, there are several variations of the spelling.
