I was thinking that if they were going to make smoking illegal then they would also have to accept responsibility for creating them and do something to cure them (besides dumb useless web sites like Phillip Morris garbage) If they were willing to take real full responsibility for curing the smokers they created then fine make it illegal. But not until somebody accepts responsibility should such a deliberate criminalization of innocent people be considered even remotely fair... (I bet the ACLU would take up that case ;) )

- No.
- How about the same age when we start letting kids drive?
- Sometimes.
- When i needed to.
- Clothing and breath stink.
- Something to do when you're stuck around boring people, besides drinking.
- Around $1. And since we're going all out on the price fixing, let's make bread $0.30 a loaf...
- The same way we, the people, make anything illegal: claim it's part of a plot by scary minorities to rape our young women. Then build bigger prisons. Prisons fix everything...
- Absolutely! Send me a donation of $9.99, and i'll ship you my free pamphlet on alternate, positive stress relief techniques (that i conveniently also sell equipment for - catalog included!)

1. No, but perhaps the manufacture of tobacco products should be. (why insist on punishing the consumer, rather than the supplier)? These days the government profits from the sale of cigarettes more than the growers and manufacturers do. They are complicit in fostering and supporting the practice. 2. N/A, see #1 3. Yes 4. Yes 5. ? don't get the question ? 6. It's an addiction, and as such self-satisfying and self-sustaining. The issue is more what are the barriers to breaking the addiction, than what are the benefits... 7. Whatever the market (without government interference) makes it. 8. You have absolutely no right to do so. You can restrict its practice in public places, regulate its avaliability to minors, but have no right to prohibit private use. There is no justification for confusing tyranny by the majority with "democracy". Besides, it won't work, as the attempt to prohibit the consumption of alcholol in the early 1900s in the US clearly proved. It is grossly hypocritical to suggest that the users are the problem to be corrected while ignoring the producers (and simultaneously participating in the profits). 9. How is this question relevant? Are you making some unwarranted assumption about why people smoke?

In the UK, approx. 7 billion pounds is raised by taxing tobacco, and the cost to the NHS of smoking related diseases is approx. 3 billion. Hence, if smoking were outlawed in the UK, the Chancellor would have to find at least 4 billion from somewhere else! :) Saying that, I expect it will be banned within my lifetime. And as an ex-smoker (who found it very hard to quit), I say bring it on.

Current age of 18-19 is most likely adequate, you could argue for 15-16yr olds because they can drive (which is potentially worse) but as a society I think we own it to our future (because smoking kills, fact not opinion) to restrict minors like we already do.

Not sure, but I'm not really in favor of price gouging the consumer with ever increasing taxes.

Simple, it infringes on the rights of others when people smoke in public. We make smoking in public illegal, not in private. Heck if I care what you do in your own home so long as it only affects you. But why should I have to hold my breath to go into a mall or building because 10 people are polluting the air outside the entrance?

It has a relaxing effect. Of course after becoming and addict your body asks for it and it's kinda nasty if don't give it to it. My biggest problem while trying to quit smoking: couldn't concentrate very well on the job. My brain was partially gone fishing. Of course a couple of high priority tasks that came along with a time bomb, quickly destroyed the few weeks of quitting. Been doing this on and on for some time now.

Sure, but I don't think there's a faster way. Nicotine is absorbed by the blood vessels in your lungs immediately so you get the effect instantly. And a cigarette lasts about 6 minutes. What could I do in 6 minutes to get the good stuff? Yeah, I know I'm an addict.

I do generally appreciate the non-smoking people who want to try to get rid of bad things like this that have literally ruined peoples lives by lung cancer, throat cancer, emphysema, and other health problems. In a way, though, this zeal to erase smoking reminds me of the US prohibition on liquor last century. In the end, it didn't work well. (I think it goes to show that you can't legislate your views on people who don't share your views.) One thing that irks me with the anti-smoking crowd is how some of them have tried to wipe cigarettes out of history. For example, in the Beatles Abbey Road photo where John, Paul, George, and Ringo are walking across Abbey Road, George is smoking a cigarette. The anti-smoking crowd wants to photoshop that to remove the cig in George's mouth. I think stuff like that is really dumb and revisionist.

If we shall go to make smoking illegal, also should be maked illegal a lot of other things: abortions, drinking, homosexuality, processed food, and so on. What should we make illegal? Something which affect our health? Others health? Our life / social life? Others health? Our liberty? You see my point. Is hard to take a radical option. And don't forget: Tobacos companies have here a great word to say! ;P

- It should not be allowed in public places. Doing it in one's home is fine. 3) No. Never have, either. 5) Odor. Breathing problems. Yellow teeth. Burn marks in clothing, car. 6) There are none. Only an idiot would believe that inhaling tobacco smoke into ones lung is beneficial. 7) Very expensive. 8) Don't try. Young people see the effects it has on others yet they still opt to do it. Oh come on, nicotine is a stimulant and endorphin releaser. So you feel good, and secure. For a short time. But then your body produces extra endorphins to accomodate the demand and viola, you get edgy and need to let the buggers out of their cage, so you smoke again.

Ya know, it should be fair market value. Anything else is extortion. And its the chemicals in the cigs that are toxic and cause cancer. We wouldn't have such a burden to taxpayers and the health system if they were forced to sell only tobacco. The companies are the ones who need to be held accountable.

Stupid question. I didn't smoke to remove stress. I smoked because I was addicted. Is smoking negative? Ok, questions aside, I smoked originally because it was cool to do so in 1979. And my first cigarrette was a Kool. I personally have a history in my family of lung issues and it caught up with me, so I quit. I'd rather reserve my lungs for other things. Like breathing. But I truly enjoyed the experience and would still smoke if my lungs could afford it. Which they could if it weren't for the chemicals. I'll still enjoy a cigar occasionally, like once or twice a year. Funny, whe
