So, my AVG trial just ended. I'm wondering if I should buy it ( I find it is a CPU hog ), or if there are better options ? If the best option is free, that would be nice, but I'm not one of those guys who loves to charge people to write software, then expects to use all free stuff. So, free or not, what do people use/recommend ?

Interesting. I've been using the free AVG for quite a while and I like it better than all the others (free or otherwise). I just upgraded to 7.5 and it seems to be lighter than the previous version. In any case - I'm a big AVG fan. I'm planning on buying a license (real soon now).

I second the AVG 7.5 Free Release ... have it running on several PCs now. It's light, fast and works.

I've used CA Anti-Virus in various forms for a long time (with a brief break for McAfee and Symantec, both of which were, in my experience, horrible.) I've been quite happy with it. I hear that Microsoft Live One Care is good, but have no experience with it.

BitDefender Antivirus v10[^], Plus and Internet Security just have extra baggage that isn't necessary. I have v9 Standard on my Lapto, Desktop and the wife PC. Never had a drama and find it doesn't bog down the machine, at least not enough to bug me.

I agree. I use the free and paid versions in differnet situations and have never had any problems. I recommend AVG to anyone who asks for home or business use (free or paid as appropriate). Many people have followed my advice and none have ever complained. (It's probably the only piece of advice I can say that about!)

I use NOD32 at work and have to say that it is only using 23 Mb of memory. My McAffee at home is using over 100 Mb. Also, it doesn't seem to hinder the performance of my system. I'm pretty happy with it. More info here[^]. Regards,
