Bluetooth mouse

I bought myself a bluetooth enabled laptop and I am wondering if bluetooth mouse (this one for instance[^]) is worth it.

The only thing I worry about with a bluetooth mouse is battery life. The usb kind that logitech makes last longer than bluetooth, but they require you hang that usb receiver off your laptop which is not cool. I'd say go for it, but I would buy a trackball instead.

that reminds me... I have a logitech MX 1000 laser mouse that a desert mouse chewed up overnight... does that make him a cannibal? hmmmm

I don't have any bluetooth device yet (excluding my laptop).

I've only used the usb variety with trackballs. And I play FPS games without a problem. If there's a response delay, I don't notice it.

I don't have a bluetooth mouse, but I do use the Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse 4000[^] (while secretly desiring the Laser Mouse 5000[^]). It rocks. 4 way scroll, very responsive, good battery life and compact. I never, ever use wires mice for travelling. But wait! I just noticed the Wireless Mouse 8000[^]! I buy mice like women buy shoes. I need one of these. Bluetooth and brushed aluminium finish. Nice! (and I've used Logitech mice and never liked them. Mice are one of the things Microsft do a great job on)

I have this mouse and I'm using it with my blootooth-enabled laptop. I like the fact that there isn't a USB dongle sticking out anywhere. I haven't even installed the Logitech software, I'm using the Blootooth software that came with the machine and it paired with no problems. The battery life is ok, but I wish it was rechargable. The bad thing is the delay. If you don't use the mouse for a minute or so, it goes into a power-saving sleep mode, and then it takes about a second or two to "wake up". This got really annoying at first but I got used to it. I haven't been able to figure out how to turn off the sleep mode. All in all I'd say I like the mouse but it could have been better.

All things equal I'd rather have an MS mouse myself. The 8000 didn't fit my hand well, and aside from logitecs MX610 there aren't any good large cordless lefthanded (or symetric) mice out there. They finally fixed the major driver problem I had in the past. My old logitec mouse didn't work at all with the generic driver, and windows wasn't able to automatically find the driver on the CD. Working the add hardware wizard by keyboard was excruciating.

Or a real rat, for that matter. My daughter has a pet rat that likes to chew on the mouse cable. Doesn't like the competition, I guess :laugh:.

My logitec MX610 is a battery hog, I'm using ~2000mAh rechargables, and they're drained roughly every second week with ~5hrs of use/day. How much worse would a bluetooth one be?

I don't know, but that sounds uncharacteristically bad. I go for months without having to change the single AA in my cordless trackman wheel[^]. And I do use it at work all day. Rechargeables will only go for about 3 weeks to a month, but my rechargeables aren't that good.

I've got good rechargables, and they're far enough from my hand that heating shouldn't be an issue (at body temp rechargables loose several percent of thier charge daily).

Hmm, I guess that's another concern for the OP. The trackball is optical but probably has a less powerful laser than a regular mouse. So my input should probably be ignored... :)
