Trying to survive the Internet Bubble Burst the best I could. Without a job I didn't just want to sit at home doing nothing while I was waiting for jobs to become available so I started writing articles on CP and answering questions in the forums.

2001?! We were still in a daze, realizing that we survived Y2K, but didn't realize it was going to get a whole lot worse (I think "hype" was invented in 1999). Oh, yeah, and trying to figure out if we should go with .net or stick with MFC. :laugh::laugh::laugh:

Oh that's a bit of a tale. Almost a whale of a tale. The life threatening part of the journey lasted 3 years. We made it over that hump and so far things are good. She's in public school now though so that's a big unknown. As a family we all went and got shots for all matter of things yesterday for her sake. She has a feeding tube that we use to provide the critical care through. She can eat normally but her diet is very strict. She has a diabetic diet of sorts but way more strict and just as punishing if she doesn't adhere to it. Her condition is beyond complex in terms of long term recovery and right now we have way more questions than we do answers. We took a year off of trying to make progress on her condition because it's consuming work that requires tons of reading, research and time with specialists. We pick that torch back up on 12-23 with a doctor of hers we haven't seen for 2 years. He's a specialist in pediatric GI stuff. I doubt he'll have answers but we're hoping he'll have clues. We'll then assemble those clues and build a bigger picture as we move from specialist to specialist. Here is a story that took her up to about 18 months old. http://www.pediatricparents.com/Katie.htm[^] that's a site I someday hope to dedicate to helping parents like us but right now it's in bad shape. There used to be a lot more to it but a lot of life happened between when it was and where it is now. That only tells about 1/2 the story but it explains the what/how/why of things with her. Now we are trying to comprehend extensive damage to her small bowel in the nerves and the supporting systems of digestion. Long road, lots of theory.

Mum's friend is also female and in her 60's. I've known her most of my life and have spoken with her at length about how she copes with the things she see's everyday. She says she just has to put the kids out of her mind once she's done all she can for them and focus on the next one. I cant imagine how rewarding and sometimes soul destroying that kind of work must be.

Our Pediatric Surgeon is supposed to be one of the best in the U.S. and one thing that always impressed me was her bedside compassion but when it was time to lay it all down and take the gamble you could tell she was just "doing her thing" and it wasn't a name to her. There were times where she and I were side by side working on Katie and her ability to disengage from the emotions and just work was remarkable. I'm sure that later when nobody is watching she has to deal with it (and maybe not). It would be hard but when it was time to "throw down" she was mentally iced and very good under pressure. It's weird but I had to do the same thing on so many occassions just so I could think clearly and reason out a "best of the worst" before the paramedics got to our house. Note to anyone who might be reading. Paramedics are rarely on time so don't sit on your hands waiting for them to save the day. Of all the times they came to our house there was only 1 time where they were the players in the event. The rest of the time it was me. Problem-solving on the fly with a puzzle that meant a lot to me. It's all good though. We got it worked out. I bet that kid doctors have one heck of a time trying to erase memories. That would be tough.

Clearly the best choice was MFC.:-D
We converted everything from MFC to VB6, so we could use the VB.NET upgrade wizard, then the C# upgrade wizard, then.... :laugh::laugh::laugh:

Legally, per se... I started the search for an attorney (not sure why I said doctor hmmm), and making the arrangements from my hospital bed. I entered the hospital through the ER on 11/3, I was transferred to Albuquerque on the 12th, my wife and the hospital in Cruces tried to stop the transfer. The hospital in Albuquerque might be able to help me, or at the very least find out exactly what was wrong and how bad it was. But my wife and the hospital both believed it was in my best interest to die peacefully rather than be moved around trying to save me. I barred my wife from the hospital in Albuquerque on the 13th, the 14th she used a false name to call into my room to chew me out, and on the 15th I started looking for a lawyer.

At that time I joined a jewelry firm and was begining to enjoy selling engagement rings to beautiful ladies(rehearsing "will you marry me" with them". I still work for them. but off lately I am heavily hooked on to .net.
