Hmm, I was 16 years old, doing my first real project for a company that doesn't exist anymore. Ooh and I was enjoying a very good time at school, doing everything that wasn't allowed. Gotta love being young...

Our Pediatric Surgeon is supposed to be one of the best in the U.S. and one thing that always impressed me was her bedside compassion but when it was time to lay it all down and take the gamble you could tell she was just "doing her thing" and it wasn't a name to her. There were times where she and I were side by side working on Katie and her ability to disengage from the emotions and just work was remarkable. I'm sure that later when nobody is watching she has to deal with it (and maybe not). It would be hard but when it was time to "throw down" she was mentally iced and very good under pressure. It's weird but I had to do the same thing on so many occassions just so I could think clearly and reason out a "best of the worst" before the paramedics got to our house. Note to anyone who might be reading. Paramedics are rarely on time so don't sit on your hands waiting for them to save the day. Of all the times they came to our house there was only 1 time where they were the players in the event. The rest of the time it was me. Problem-solving on the fly with a puzzle that meant a lot to me. It's all good though. We got it worked out. I bet that kid doctors have one heck of a time trying to erase memories. That would be tough.

The best doctors can do that emotional disconnect when they need to, although I reckon that it eats them up inside. If they couldn't disconnect, then they wouldn't be able to work with you, and they wouldn't be able to solve the problems. Man - they certainly earn every penny. I'm glad that things are working out for your daughter though - they put you through so much, but they are worth every minute (even when you just want to scream).

Camped out in a hospital 18x7x180 hoping to keep my kid alive. (Not quite yet but in one month and 5 days it will have been 5 years and she will be 5 years old.) We're going to have one righteous party to celebrate the life that is in that child. Funny this question would come up. My wife today just asked me what we should do for the big 05 for the tiny little rat. Then tonight the tiny little rat points at all the scars on her stomach and asks me what each one was for... What a ride... My gosh...:)

All these kids on the site. 5 years ago, I was doing maintenance fixes for a client of mine. It sounds like I've been coding longer than a lot of people here have been alive (started way back in '79). That's a frigthening thought.

It's good to hear that things have improved. So often, we get mired in problems and pains that we don't see any way out or any way forward. The light at the end of the tunnel is not always an oncoming train.

Arthur Dent - "That would explain it. All my life I've had this strange feeling that there's something big and sinister going on in the world." Slartibartfast - "No. That's perfectly normal paranoia. Everybody in the universe gets that." Deja View - the feeling that you've seen this post before.
