I could never understand why some jokes are like that. Some jokes are acceptable (eg many 'Irish' jokes), but some about other races appear to cause offence, surely if its ok to take the p out of the Irish, the same goes for Indians, Sikhs, Muslims and Africans? I never really saw the racist angle on this joke until it was mentioned in this post, in fact my first thought was the film Planet Of the Apes... It isn't being politically correct, it was a warning that it can be construed as racist. Even though the "monkey" term has fallen out of favor, it was very commonly used as a term for black people. So don't take it as me saying "shame on you for saying that". It is just a warning that jokes like that can get you fired in the US. It might suck, but it is the reality of the situation. http://news.zdnet.co.uk/story/0,,s2072468,00.html http://www.mit.edu/activities/safe/cases/mit-pic-book/pres-orders-cover-pulled http://www.mit.edu/activities/safe/cases/mit-pic-book/summary.html http://www.voy.com/31499/1.html http://pub45.ezboard.com/fmindkandysinterracialdebateandrelationsfrm51.showMessage?topicID=125.topic I could just go on and on with links. Well, unfortunately in my youth I was exposed the word monkey being used for black by my more Neanderthal kin. :( But look at my response. I am not saying "shame on you". I am just warning people that using that joke in the US can get you fired. Sucks to live in a PC world. Tim Smith I know what you're thinking punk, you're thinking did he spell check this document? Yeah, that is one of the problems. Some races/ethnic groups get more PC protection than others.
