This is a question for those of you with 'net access at home via a broadband connection. Do you use a firewall? Which one?
Same, I use zonealarm. But it really hardly ever ever ever does anything. Tim Smith I know what you're thinking punk, you're thinking did he spell check this document? Well, to tell you the truth I kinda forgot myself in all this excitement. ADSL Connection with ICS, No problem with Zone Alarm, Atguard Tiny All the free versions, Just set the rules. Remember your firewall only logs what it catches not what sneaks through. :-) Regardz Colin J Davies

i've been using ZoneAlarm for the past three days . my only complaint is that the AudioGalaxy client can't send through ZA, though it receives just fine. -c

I don't have problems downloading or uploading with AudioGalaxy. I have ZoneAlarm 3.0.118

I use Symantec's Personal Firewall. I haven't had any problems. It's easy to install and get set up. It is also aware of certain programs and allows easier configuration to allow those programs to get out. It also keeps a log of any attempted attack. Kelly Herald Software Developer Micronpc, LLC

Yep. It's the pro version. (As I understand it they don't have a free 3.x version yet, but soon will)

Have you tied giving the program permission to access the Web manually? It's been a year or so since I switched to the Pro version, but I think that function still exists in the free version. The Pro upgrade is definitely worth the tiny price, by the way. It let's track down and harrass offenders!

Linux (Mandrake 7.1) IPChains Handles my masquerading for the several computers on my network and does firewalling for all of them. I run ZoneAlarm on the desktops where I feel the need, I like the anti-spyware aspect of the desktop firewalls. Also in security circles this is called "Security In Depth", security at all levels that can handle it. That way if something gets through the Mandrake box it may be unpleasantly suprised that all of my machines are individually hardened and are running ZoneAlarm on top of that. Why? Because I could. :) I don't really have anything much to protect, just more of an exercise in technical skill. yeah, i gave it all the permissions i could. but it looks like it's trying multiple ports with strange protocols or something. i'll get the pro version. - c

But with ZoneAlarm on the external interface, and the Win2K server configured as a router with NAT on the external ifc, it works quite nicely. Curiously, when I had to put firewalls (SonicWall) on the work system, I discovered the volume of attacks going on around here all the time! This is practically the end of the earth - why would anyone waste time messing with these poor saps?

I also am using ZoneLabs Zone Alarm. In addition to a Linksys router.
