Cell phone and GPS
-
Yesterday my cell phone was stolen...:((:sigh: Then I was thinking about cell phones with GPS, then If stolen, I can "track" where is. But I know not about this, if to GPS work is needed what the cell phone is turned on, if GPS is a separated piece to connect to cell, etc... I know what a lot of CPians use GPS (I know not if is in cell phones), then someone can give some help? Regards

Actually, a phone does not need GPS to be tracked. Any cell phone, if turned on, can be tracked.

Thieves here in Brazil does: (1) turn off the cell phone and not turn on until unblock (2) trash the chip Then I think hard by the "common methods" what my cell phone returns :(( Because this I wish to be prepared in the next time...

Report it. I don't know if they will, but even without GPS a cell phone can be tracked when it's in use. And, don't say it isn't so because I've seen it done in movies! :-D

Then you need watch Brazilian Real News about thieves in prison! They use cell phone (from inside of the prison) what does not can be tracked! The cops are installing some device to block any cell phone communication in and out from prison, scrambling the phone signal. pt-BR Clickety[^]

Wow!! Is there really that much of a black market in cell phones there? Since the outcome seems hopeless, why don't you just get another one?

Report it, the phone can at least be blocked.

Tracked to a cell and there are 'location services' but they are approximate.

Believe me, they could be tracked if they wanted to ! :-) But this would mean some expenditure, as the base stations most probably are meant for cell phones outside the jail. So, to be able to track down a prisoners phone, the position of every active (mean calling or called) cell phone in reach of several base stations around the jail would have to be found out and tested if they originate from within the jail. So, technically it would be no problem at all. But who would pay it, and is all the effort worth the results ? Marius
