1. In Explorer, if you click on an empty CD/DVD drive, you get the same message as before about putting in a disc. But Vista opens the tray without any warning. I'm sure that's gonna cause damage some day (or at least a spilled drink) when a laptop gets used in cramped quarters (like an airplane seat) and the tray pops out and bumps into something else. 2. I use 4NT[^] as my command line, and I want to have two shortcuts on the desktop, one normal and one elevated. I can't do this. When I change the properties of one shortcut, the other shortcut gets partially modified too. :mad: Explorer is improved somewhat over beta 2. But I still hate how the tree buttons disappear when the tree doesn't have the focus. I still can't figure out why that "feature" exists.

Another example: My old case[^] had a door in front of the slots for the CD/DVD drives, and it was usually closed (how often do you really need a CD/DVD in these days of disc images and large HDDs, after all?). By accident, I once told an application to open the tray without opening that door before. There were some really nasty noises, but fortunately no damage. I'd hate to know that one misplaced click now suffices...

Those are the penalties you pay for being an early adopter. Speaking of buggy features, I heard they screwed up the Hibernate feature as well (http://neosmart.net/blog/archives/299).

Am I evil for laughing at this? Actually, I think I ran into that at about 2AM this morning and thought to myself: "there is no way that made it through betas and release canidates. I must have accidently ejected the CD myself." I then went to sleep :) Cheers!

Those are the penalties you pay for being an early adopter. Speaking of buggy features, I heard they screwed up the Hibernate feature as well (http://neosmart.net/blog/archives/299).
For months my wife and I have both used the sleep and hibernate features extensively. Typical problem happens ever now and then where an DirectX game might not come back properly, but this happens at times just flipping to the start menu and back to the game, so I will not blame that on sleep/hibernate. The only times I have experienced a problem with them was when I had an install of something go wrong or something like that, then the next time I would come back from a hibernate (I hibernate the machine every night) it had problems when it came back up. Out of probably 200 or more hibernate/awake cycles and many more sleep/awake cycles, Vista 64 RC2 only had a problem twice (other than a couple times with games on my wife's machine) and both of those were problems due to failed installs or trying to run software not compatible with Vista. The Sleep/Hibernate/Awake features in Vista happen to be in my top ten list of great working features on my systems. In the past (Windows XP, 2003), hibernate was flaky on my systems at best).

Wow, I had zero luck with anything other than shut down in beta2/RC1. The machine would either hard reset or bluescreen. If I'm feeling lucky I'll try hibernating tonight.
