Did anyone else notice this gem in the vs2k5 sp1 download page? "When installing on Windows Vista™ with User Account Control (UAC) active, there can be a substantial delay before the initial setup dialog is displayed. During this time, a UAC function is verifying digital signatures within the installation package. This service pack carries a large number of files causing the process to take up to one hour in some cases. " A bloody hour for that? :wtf:
It seems like MS has created something that's spiraling out of control. And what happens to those pour souls who have something go wrong with the installation? Is it 1hr every time they need to install?

Have you ever seen the file copy dialog "spiral" when trying to copy a ton of file? Does anyone know exactly what its doing when its "preparing" to copy a bunch of files? With xcopy it just starts going.

This reminds me of an earlier post about a month or so back... Are they smoking crack at Microsoft.... tell you what I am beginning to think so. I think I will go and re-examine some of the potential of moving over to Linux, which doesn't thrill me, but I think MS is starting to lose it :sigh: :wtf:

I disagree it isn't that Windows installer is no good just that some of the people authoring Windows Installer installation shouldn't be... creating installations. The biggest offenders are the people creating the installations for MS... Used properly Windows Installer works great.

That sounds like it's counting the number of files and adding up their sizes, so it can show an accurate progress bar.
