Microsoft ISV Emporer & Vista

I mentioned yesterday I've just built a new MicroATX PC. Now I'm wondering about Windows Licenses. I'll initially run XP on in, but will likely move to Vista sometime next year. I've just had a quick look at the MS ISV Empower program, but it makes no mention of Vista, just XP. Does anyone now if Vista will be added to Empower? I don't want to go and spend more money on an XP License now, when Vista isn't far off. So I'm looking for the cheapest way to get XP (home/pro) now and Vista later. MSDN would be a plus and comes with Empower.

I signed up for the Microsoft Action Pack[^] and found it the best bang for the buck in a long time. To my surprise, I got an email the other day saying that the January update would include Vista, and also, if I recall correctly, Office 2007.

Seems like it was around $300 - $400, as I recall.

You have to meet the requirements for their Parner program (see the link for details). Since I have a consulting & development company, it was a good choice for me.

Yes, it is for businesses. The plan is there to help grow a ISV business providing you the tools for the job over the first one to two years. It does require that you have a website and maintain it with your contact information during the time you are in the program along with a business plan to develop a retail software package during the year of the membership, which uses MS technologies that passes MS testing and is made available for retail. If not all completed in the first year, you can subscribe for the second year if needed. I did find out though that businesses ran out of your home qualify for the program.

Why not just use the System Builder Licences? If you're just running this as normal ol' standalone machine, then go for the cheapest thing possible. Directron is offering XP with a Vista Upgrade Coupon. $132 sets you up (apparently for both?) I don't really get what the coupon offer is giving you, but presumably you'll get at least a discount on Vista. http://www.directron.com/oemxpro2v1pk.html[^]

Thnaks for that. I'm in Australia so that isn't a lot of use though. I can buy the OEM Versions of XP for $A119 (Home), $A199 (Pro) but it makes more sense to put this towards Empower or Action Pack.
