Hey Guys, in a minor accident my old keyboard now refuses to work. Probably it didn't like the good german beer I poured into it. So know it's finally time to get a new Keyboard. But when I got to [your favourite computer store] I was confronted with a large number of High-Tech Keyboard with cardreaders, display, calculators and so on. I prefered my technical very simple built cherry keyboard, but also I guess it's time to go with the time. To make a long story short: What keyboard are you using? And which ones have the best ergonomics ? Peace, Ben

A cheap one from Belkin, so if I spill coffee or tea on it, no big deal, go and get another one :)

That was my cherry keyboard, too. So it didn't hurt that much, however I need a new one, maybe one that survives a beer attack :)

I'm using a Microsoft Digital Media Pro Keyboard. I've been using Microsoft keyboards since 2000, and I'm not planning on stopping now. I love these keyboards.. Look and feels great, and not terribly expensive. :)

I am using a Microsoft Ergo at work, a logitech ergo at home, and my girlfriend just ordered a MX 5000 desktop combo[^] because she does not like ergo keyboards. I am adaptable, I prefer neither the logitech nor the Microsoft... now. The new Microsofts hold the function key setting from boot to boot, finally.

The best keyboard & mouse combo that i have worked with was my A4Tech wireless combo. I am strongly considering to buy me one this x-mas because the logitech LX 500 that i am currently working on is an old horse compared to my old A4Tech.

I type hard, 'cause I learned touch-typing on a manual typewriter back in high school. I got tired of replacing my computer-store-variety keyboards every few years, so I spent a bit more and got these: - Fujitsu FKB4725[^] at work, and - Unicomp Customizer 101[^] at home. They have no fancy extra play/pause/autowash-your-dog/email buttons, but they both have very nice keystroke action and have held up very well to my bashing. The moment I started using them I could tell that the Unicomp was more rugged. It is rather noisy though, which is why I use the Fujitsu at work -- it's the next best thing.

Sounds like this one. I like simple. The fewer buttons the better in my book. And I type one-handed so ergo is out of the question. What gets my vote for WTF is the keyboards with "special" buttons for launching Office or controlling audio or whatnot. I don't even use the "Windows" buttons, so this keyboard has at least three buttons I never use. The worst keyboard by far though was some Compaq keyboards I had to deal with that had a split "space bar", and the left half was a delete key! I use the left half of the space bar extensively and those things wasted so much of my time even after I realized what was going on. Now that's a WTF.

I have Wireless Dell keyboard/mouse combo. It's nice, but the key positions aren't standard.

Office: a couple of Dell keyboards. One with the snazzy cutaway border. Home: Vintage 1987 IBM PC-AT Enhanced Keyboard. Heavy, solid, a joy to type on. Everywhere: Dell laptop keyboard, with a few of the control keys still harboring tiny amounts of cranberry juice residue. The IBM keyboard is well over twice the size of the laptop keyboard, but I can move between keyboards fairly quickly, provided they use a more-or-less standard layout. No L-shaped Enter keys, no tiny backspace keys, no moving the |\ key or re-grouping function keys. Their insistence on the latter perversion accounts for my acute distaste of Microsoft "Natural" keyboards - tricking me into closing an app instead of searching isn't cool.

---- I just want you to be happy; That's my only little wish...

Peace, Ben

I still have my Natural Keyboard Pro[^], which I treat like it was my child since it's no longer being made. :(( I have a 4000 as a backup, in case the Pro ever kicks the bucket.

That was my cherry keyboard, too. So it didn't hurt that much, however I need a new one, maybe one that survives a beer attack :)

My old keyboard had that happen

Still using my first keyboard (came with 286 back in '8?). Each key has it's own spring, nice click feel/sound. Can't stand the newer contact based boards, they feel too mushy.
