Proxy
-
At work we are using a a web-based hosted service. Everyone can access the service from home without any problems, but from work there are serious issues of a connection < 50% of the time. We are able to ping the host easily, the host has checked and there are no problems on their end. It seems as though a tracert from work gived us a problem somewhere out it internet land between our internet provider and our web-email host. We are thinking of using a proxy service to make it look like we are connecting from a different location. Which may fix our problem. As mentioned we can all log-in from outside of work without a problem. From work we do not have an internet connection issue, except this very specific issue. My only issue is that I've never used a proxy service. I'm hoping that the general consensus would agree that this may help. Can anyone recommend a proxy. It doesn't have to be a free service, I would actually feel more secure paying for a good service, though I'm not sure I want to break the bank. I appreciate any recommendations.

If you are on a road and the bridge is out, if you make it look like you are coming from a different, the bridge is still out. If the tracert is showing a problem outside your network, then it is probably with your provider. I would talk with the provider and ask them to explain the details of your tracert.

I have tried this about a dozen times with their techs. However, I have never gotten a solid answer. Its seems as though they are just a front end to another provider. And I can't get anyone to forward me to someone who knows what they are doing.

The weird thing is, I can log in to the service from two employees homes, less than 10 miles away, which use the exact same internet service provider. The more I think about it, the less sense it makes.

What type of connection do you have at the office, (i.e. DSL, ISDN, or Fiber ect.)? It’s entirely possible that there is so much bandwidth being consumed its killing the connection to your provider. Wouldn't be a bad time to audit the router logs to see if there are a lot of people pulling streaming media. :~

There wouldn't happen to be a cap at the number of simultaneous users would there? -- modified at 2:56 Wednesday 20th December, 2006
I'd love to help, but unfortunatley I have prior commitments monitoring the length of my grass. :Andrew Bleakley:

I've checked the routers and they are all in a happy mood. There is no bandwidth problem. I've installed TOR as suggested earlier and it seems to have fixed the problem. All I can really say is "WTF"

Seems as though it has fixed our problem. I'll have to see if the company can send you a case or two for christmas.
