How many of you now always select "Custom" install for free apps in order to ensure you don't get the toolbars and desktop apps (eg GoogleWare) that many apps now bundle?

I like to select "Advanced" because it makes me feel like a PC guru! ;P

Absolutely! Not only do I want to avoid the extra add-ins of evil, but if it's possible I want to select file locations and if there are options, I want to know exactly what options are selected. Trish

I do it all the time, not only because of the adware, but because I can usually find components that I don't need. Also, sometimes if you don't choose custom, it does not even ask/show you the path to which the program is going to install, and I like to know what is what on my hard disk. I also read atleast some parts of the EULA more ofter that not(esp. in case of 'free' software that is not a GPL/LGPL/Apache License). BTW, ./configure make sudo make install is the right way to install an app.;P

And even big companies like yahoo are doing it, every time i upgrade they make me upgrade to newer messenger i always looks for the checkboxes to remove toolbars and other junk X| And this brings me to another question, how many times have you clicked custom and saw that all three installs were the same :-D

                    I doubt therefore i might be :~

I take custom/Advanced. But do take into account that this is a programing site and most of us has the know how (or fussiness) to make applications do what we want it to do (or try to). My guess is that most end users just use typical (like my mom) because they are afraid that they loose out by not installing the whole app.

What bugs me is when the three options are really all the same. You choose Custom and then you find that there is only one option to install.

How many of you now always select "Custom" install for free apps in order to ensure you don't get the toolbars and desktop apps (eg GoogleWare) that many apps now bundle?

                                        cheers, Chris Maunder

Well let's reformulate. Is there anyone here not using custom install? (I do not expect any answer :) ).

Yes, but only for students, when there is not sufficient time. Otherwise, post pond the installation.
