At one position, long ago, everyone had those squeeze balls on their desk. They are supposed to release tension by squeezing them. Nobody did that. You would hear someone yell out some explicit, followed by a loud bang. It was the ball hitting the wall, like a fastball from Nolan Ryan.

I used to thump on my keyboard, especially when the crappy Borland compiler I was using way back then used to crash, taking all my work with it. Now I work mostly on a laptop I can't do it any more :-( although I've just got a new desktop and these new-fangled wireless keyboards look intriguingly un-aerodynamic...

Do that! Kill your coworkers, boss, girfriend... in games like warcraft, quake, etc, of course!

I still do. I keep it around to help with the cramps in my hands. My joints have enlarged due to arthritis, and as a result the fast-twitch muscles in my hands tire out quickly. Squeezing on a tension ball seems to help.

No, they write blogs. 'Cos they think the whole world is actually interested in their thoughts. ;P

How do you vent your frustrations at work? I need some ideas before i went implementing my thought of killing someone.:omg: I remember seeing in the news that there are places where they have glass plates for you to slam onto the walls until you are pleased. :~

I think you stop and get a new perspective. If something is *that* much under your skin you are letting *it* (person, place or thing) have way to much control over you. Take a breather, realize your own behavior is in need of the adjustment and then engage the proplem and work towards a solution that demonstrates your patience, aptitude and ability to perform under stressful conditions while above all else you show that you have mastered your own ability to maintain self-control.

I've spent the better part of this lifetime trying to repress the urge to do just this sort of thing. The human race can be a pesky lot. Ultimately, I've found a preemptive approach to be the most effective in reducing the wear and tear on my patience. In other words, I've worked hard to figure people out and manage situations so that they don't reach this point, and that's really the heart of my writing. I've written a number of columns the past few years, and I keep the archives available here[^]. Once you get over the current irritation, you might check a few out and see if they're helpful. Although there are a couple of techie related columns, I'd recommend Cubicle City and Raality Check when it comes to dealing with people. In the meantime, try to stay away from sharp, pointy instruments. :-D
