Hi, I've got an old Dell 600mhz at home. It has two drives, one 12gb and one 60gb and not a lot of RAM 256mb I think. Any ideas what I can do with it? I don't want to throw it away, any ideas what I could use it for? I thought about installing Linux and then hiding it in a cupboard and connecting it my TV so I could surf the web from the comfort of my sofa (via wireless keyboard and mouse). Any other ideas for something cool?

A dedicated Skype PC (if you use Skype that is)? Just shove it in some cupboard and get one of the wireless phones that can connect to a pc & (PSTN?) line et voila. Just my 2p, suggested it because we use Skype quite a lot at home and should really do something like this.

I have no idea what I just said. But my intentions were sincere.

I would install Linux/XP and then set it up to do the following. 1. Run Folding@Home 2. Aggregate all my Rss Junk into one place 3. Aggregate podcasts, netcasts, vidcasts and so on, into one place.

You could use it a music server, streaming your fave tunes to suitably Wi-Fi enabled receivers around the house. That's something I've been meaning to look at myself.

Lay it sideways under the desk; it will keep your feet warm in winter.

Donate it to a charity or other worthy cause. They will probably use it alot more than you will and they will appreciate it. You can also probably get a $100 tax deduction for it as long as they are a registered charity (Canada for sure. Not sure about the US). David
