Well if it is anything like Virtual Server 2005 from Microsoft I would have to access the virtual machine from a web browser and I do not get sound. X| Is it possible to host a virtual machine accessible to anyone on the internet with Windows XP Pro and Virtual Server or VMware Server?

With vmware server you can connect to virtual machines on the local system or on another system that is running vmware server provided your firewall permits that. There is also a vmware server console program that you can use to connect to a remote system running vmware server without the need to install the complete vmware server (> 100MB of software). I know for a fact that you do get sound on local and also on remote connections. One thing that is slipping my mind right now is weather or not you can have multiple simultaneous connections to the same virtual machine. This is frustrating as I have used vmware server hundreds of times...

I would rather have the Business Edition. I am getting Vista Home Premium upgrade in the mail for only 16 bucks (packaging and shipping). I have heard that I will not be able to use Virtual PC:mad: That means I will have to buy a copy of VMware.

I don't get it. I just had a look at vmware.com, and VMWare Server is indeed free. But what sets it apart from VMWare workstation? :~ It seems like nothing...

Virtual Server comes with a client application too... you do not need to use the browser ActiveX control to connect to the virtual machine. Not to mention you can just remote desktop to it as with any other machine, virtual or real, once it is running.

Yeah, but I don't want all that media center junk. Also I think Business Edition is supported for a much longer period than any other edition with the exception of the Enterprise Edition. Why load up my computer with unused software when I can have a clean mean business machine?

You don't have to use the Media Center stuff, it can also be removed like components in XP (like IIS etc)

We don't get fooled againI defintely agree with you. In fact, even if VMWare only made Workstation Vista compatible they would still be at least 2 whole versions ahead of VirtualPC! I am currently using VMWare's Workstation 6 beta. It works flawlessly (at least the features that I have used). The best thing that I like about using VMWare Workstation is that it supports 64bit guest OSes even if the host is 32bit if your CPU supports the EM64T and Intel's VT (Virtualization Technology).

last time I looked the free server program does not support multiple snapshots. I use VMWare workstation all the time for testing, and snapshots are a must have feature for me! I try to keep my machines below 20 snapshots each, and normally succeed :) but the ability to bounce between different service pack configurations, versions of our software, etc, it is totally invaluable. i have to many snapshots to setup full clones for everything, and linked clones are just overkill for this, especially since you cannot shrink them.
