Blog Tagged - Ok, we get it already

The practice of being "tagged" in your blog and telling 5 secrets about yourself should go the way of disco. Ok, it may have been interesting for the first day or so, but now it's getting old. Nobody really cares that you have a plant named Sara that you talk to daily. We subscribe to the rss feed to engage in conversations about coding, etc., not your plant. If we cared about that, I'd go to botanist rss feeds. We get it. Enough already.

I am more irritated by all the old codgers complaining about the 5 things meme. Just ignore it if you don't like it already.

Seems pretty harmless to me. Why wouldn't you want to know a few tidbits about an author you get a feed from?

There is huge industry in publishing tidbits about celebrities so why not popular bloggers: "B(log)TV", "Lifestyles of the worn-out keyboarders", "Chris Sells linqed with Aguilera". Part of the art of blogging is self-promotion so it's all just a matter of time. It reflects on the ego of the blogger and the demand (and patience) of the blogsumer.

If the authors want to post their poersonal info, I'm all for it. My gripe is with the "guise" of "Oh, I've been tagged by ...". If the blogger wants to post it, they probably would have done so already, and not waited to get "tagged".
I don't know, it's just one of those stupid little trends that some people have fun with and others get annoyed by. Life's too short to hang out in the second crowd. ;)
