Fogbugz

I'm currently looking at FogBugz. So far I haven't found anything that I didn't like. It has a fairly competent discussion board (and it's got a couple of handy features for dealing with trolls).
the last thing I want to see is some pasty-faced geek with skin so pale that it's almost translucent trying to bump parts with a partner - John Simmons / outlaw programmer
Deja View - the feeling that you've seen this post before.Pete O`Hanlon wrote:

That would do it.:-D What they do, is leave troll threads, but mark them invisible to everybody else. The troll still sees their post, but as far as they are concerned nobody is answering them. Obviously this relies on the moderator keeping on top of the board, but this is a very effective system.

It would certainly be worth a try. (As long as Chris didn't make the Trolls aware of it).

Does anyone have any experience with fogbugz[^] from (joelonsoftware's) FogCreek? I've now got a need for some bug tracking software and this seems fairly comprehensive. In particular, I need something that can receive bug notifications by email, so if anyone has some alternative (read 'free') suggestions then that would also be appreciated, although fogbugz does seem very reasonably priced. Cheers,
ChrisB ChrisDoesDev[^]
We use it, and we like it. I've tried a few bug tracking systems - fogbugz stood out (although Joel sold me his philosophy years before I wanted to buy some bug tracker - so my choice was likely biased) Setup is absolutely smooth, you get it up and running in minutes without the usual looking and reading and cursing and ISS tinkering. I was specifically looking for somethign that non-developers can use to report their bugs, and it is one of the few that get this right. If you read the blog, you probably know Joels opinions about bug tracking work flow - and I agree (though we often close bugs ourselves, having no deidcated testers). it works very smoothly. Drawbacks: Integration wiht VSS doesn't work with international VSS versions (it's a hack relying on strings that are localized), and I couldn#t get myself to switching to SQL Server to get full text search. [edit] What you might dislike is: it isn't totally configurable. But I rather see this as an advantage: Setup is simple, and what goes in and not has been well thought out by the Fogbuzzers (as opposed to "you can configure everything" systems where design decisions are pushed off to the end user) At time of searching, Gemini was the contender (IIRC free for small teams, more expensive than fog bugz if you grow), but was to unfinished.

TestTrack Pro from Seapine Software[^] is another good option.

Linkify!|Fold With Us!Cheers for that. I do like what joel writes, and it's probably also the best marketing for his product.

I wonder if that's the same Gemini helpdesk software that I used to use back in the nineties one of my first jobs? I seem to remember it was pretty clunky back then!

We've been using Countersoft's Gemini internally months ago. It's free for up to 10 users and I remember it was basic, but pretty nice at the time. It was version 1.x, and they already have 2.0 which was supposed to bring some integrated screenshot tool, etc, so it could be worth a try... Now we're moving to FogBugz and I'm pretty happy about it, been playing with their online 45-day trial and it looks very promising! Rado

No, it's the one by Radoslav is pretty new, built on ASP.NET http://www.countersoft.com/[^] As said, it looked very promising, but not yet there.

Cheers, I think I'm going to have to have a go at their 45-day trial too. Thanks,
