Nish - why did you move to Atlanta?

I must have missed something somewhere, I saw all the discussion about your tribulations with your car odometer, the bank machine incident, looking for housing etc, but I have yet to see any place where you indicated why you moved in the first place? Surely your little brushes with wimpy Toronto winters wasn't enough to scare you out of the country was it? Or is it all a secret?

Well she'd be 10 times more dissapointed by Winterlude in Ottawa if the weather forecast is any indication. Come to think of it if the weather forecast is any indication they could be holding the Tulip Festival there now.

Yeah, the way winters are getting warmer each year, people'd have to move to Alberta for some snow I guess.

(*Sample chapter available online*)Where are you looking at living in Atlanta (I'm in Atlanta as well - the Virginia Highlands area, to be exact). One point well worth considering - if you live outside of 285 and work inside of 285, you're commute will be in excess of 1 hour, each way, Monday through Friday. There is simply no way around it unless you're willing to get to work at 6am and leave by 3pm. It will be even worse if you decide to live up the Ga 400 corridor and work inside the city. In all seriousness, if you're looking at buying a place, leave from that place at the time you'd normally leave for work, and see how long it takes you to get to your office. I know a few people that seriously regret their house purchase simply because of their morning commute. It may also help to just check out Georgia Navigator[^] as well to get idea of traffic density. But most importantly: welcome to Atlanta! Like most people, I expect you'll be surprised at the marked absense of the stereotypical southern hicks and slack-jawed yokels. :) The few we have are actually quite friendly, polite, and welcoming.

I would recommend it if you like heart attack served to go.

Rawk! I'm in the Highlands area also -- I'm right down Virginia Ave and just go to work right up 10th st at Turner across from GA Tech. The commute is sweet -- can't beat 10 mins max.

Nice. I have to trek all the way up to Norcross everyday. It's against traffic, so it's not bad, but it's no 10 minute drive.
