IE 7 and IE 6 at the same time

I have started to not test things in IE6. The way i see it: If the user hasn't downloaded it already one of the following is true: 1. They turned off the update (so it is their own fault) 2. They have incredibly low bandwidth and couldn't download it (and therefore are not my clients) 3. They are using an invalid copy of windows so my site not rendering is the lest of their problems.

Or they are not permitted to upgrade because IE7 breaks an important application. In our hospitals we can not run IE7 because it breaks Stentor which is a very imporant and expensive application we use every day. http://www.stentor.com/[^]

Its activex based and I assume the new tighter security prevents the ipacs application from executing. To be entirely truthful. The same app will not run under ie6 on 64 bit windows as well so its not just IE7.

So it is more the app then anything else. Well I am not an expert with ActiveX but shouldn't getting it signed and tuning security right get it working?

I simply prefer IE6. It's easier to mess around with, the application interface (not the actual web browsing) is much better, it doesn't force settings on me and they (obviously) haven't had time to work out the most major security flaws that are undoubtedly in IE7. I also find that for certain sites, IE7 can be much much slower than IE6.

I hate the IE7 interface, but i like the fact that eventually the majority users will have it installed. The mandatory updates mean that people still using 5.* for 4.* will be asked forcefully to change.

that's true, it's always good to have a standard. ugh don't remind me of the days of IE4
I'm seriously becoming a member of the W3C. I want to sort their problems out now and then take a military apporach to enforcing standards (I'm thinking tanks and RPG's).

If you want to make any impact on IE's non compliance I think you'll need to upgrade to TBMs and nukes at a minimum, and they've got enough international development sites you'll probably need to upgrade at least as far as IRBMs.

I asked on another forum and was told Window virtual PC would work however after I downloaded and installed I was informed that it only works under XP PRO - I use Home... :( Is there any other freeware virtual emulation software out there I can use to install IE7 so I can test under that browser whilst keeping it *off* my primary system - keeping IE6 is important for me right now... Cheers :)
I finally got a job doing something I enjoy and I"m good at...15 hour days seem like play time :P

All travel agents around the world using Amadeus for booking airline tickets cannot use IE7 because it is incompatible with the Amadeus softwware. Until Amadeus brings out a new release, we have to remain on IE6 or we won't be able to book airline tickets
