I am way out of touch with this sort of thing, but I decided that given it's very unlikely I'll be travelling to any distant planets anytime soon, I thought maybe the next best thing would be to try out one of those space themed mmorpgs. I guess in my head it would be something where I could fly around and visit different planets/galaxies, etc..wow - I think I just earned an extra nerd badge for this post. Anyway, suggestions?

EVE Online[^] Completely open ended, you can do pretty much whatever you want. The backstory is amazing detailed. Check out the main site and some of the community sites. I'm prob biased but the game is awesome. Graphics overhaul is coming in the next Revelations content upgrade. DX10... drool :D

Found on Bash.org [erno] hm. I've lost a machine.. literally _lost_. it responds to ping, it works completely, I just can't figure out where in my apartment it is.

If you need some ISK (the in game currency) to get a head start just let me know :) EVE can seem overwhelming at first when trying to get some income flowing. There is no set path of what you have to do because you can do literally anything. In game scams are one of them. Be careful.

Thank you! I'll keep that in mind. Also, I saw that it costs about $20 to get started, but I couldn't find the monthly charge. Any idea what that might be? This looks pretty amazing...

It's 14.99/month. I believe it goes down to just under $11/month if you pay for 6months at a time. It's also lower for the 3month option, and there may even be a 12month one. The $20 is only to activate your 14 trial account. Here's a tip. Buy a GTC (game time code) from ShatteredCrystal.com[^]. Use it to extend your trial account. It will give you the full 30days and fully activate for only $15 instead of $20. Then you can back by CC or whatever through the official site if you want. I use ShatteredCrystal (3 month codes) though because by CC is limited to US transactions only.
