About time. It is inevitable. It is a limited resource, and whatever other factors that are at play at are reducing the amount of precipiation, we have no direct control over. If one of the constraints is being able to sustain a growing population, or even sustain the current population, then recycling has got to be part of future water management plans. I don't look forward to the idea of drinking recycled water, but chaces are it'll be of better quality than what we get at the moment. At the end of the day I think it is just a psychological and emotional barrier we have to get over. - Phil

Queenslanders to drink recycled, processed and purified waste water. So what? You think the birds and animals in your catchment areas all judiciously avoid taking a wizz anywhere near the water that's bound for your tap? Sorry, but I'm a little over the hype and emotion that's domineered this debate. We have purification plants. The water will be tested, and will in all likelihood be purer than that expensive bottled water that's on the shelves. We're running short on water and it doesn't look like a problem that's going away anytime soon so let's all just get over it and move on.

          cheers, Chris Maunder

LOL - don't go and bring logic into what is, after all, an emotional debate, and great fodder for the current affairs shows, who will, no doubt, be up in arms, and yet offer no viable alternatives.

Anyone who is worried about this, should do their bit by installing tanks and catching rainwater.  Otherwise, they should be thankful the tap works at all.

We drink our own waste here in the UK (often after treatment), and I couldn't really care less. So long as the previous owner took good care of themselves and had a good, healthy diet, it can save a fortune over buying flavoured spring water. Sometimes a good roast meal can be shared between three or four people before the juicy bits get completely filtered out. In all seriousness, recycled water is usually of a better drinking quality than natural water. The rules governing sewage treatment are far stricter than those governing drinking water treatment.

Well, yeah. Where do you think the outflow from the sewage works upstream goes? That's right - straight back into the river!

That reminds me of Terry Pratchett's description of the river Ankh: Any water which has passed through so many kidneys had to be pure.

Legally you're only actually allowed to diss Aussie beer if a) You are talking about actual Australian beer, and not rebranded Molson, Bud, Miller or any of the other "beers" that they sell over there while besmirching the good name of Australia b) You have personally, under laboratory conditions (ie in an actual Australian Pub) tasted every single Aussie beer excepting VB, Fosters, XXXX and Swan Lager. These are decoys set out for tourists. c) Said beer has been verified by 3 independant witnesses to be    i) Fresh from the tap and not the remnants of last night's empties    ii) At acceptable drinking temperature. That does not include anything above cold.    iii)Free from any encumberances including lemon slices, small umbrellas or mixers such as soda, mineral water or lemonade.

                              cheers, Chris Maunder
