I was just talking to VuNic about how we ended up on CP. I remember for the first few months the only interaction I had with CP was the insider. I kept clicking the bottom two links on the emails and ended up in this weird orange place with lots of people yelling. Then came the faithful day Jordan left. I instantly came to investigate what had happened. This led to my discovery of the Lounge, and the rest is history. How did you guys find this little pile of bytes we call home?

I was kicking around Toronto as part of a round-the-world pumpkin carving tour. One afternoon while riding out near the east end of the city when I spied a door ajar in a small, non-descript building near the railway crossing. I ventured closer when I started to hear a strange sound. Coming from inside the building was a hum, a sizzle, and occasional brief flashes. I walked up to the door to see what this strange noise was and suddenly a hand grabbed me and hauled me inside. The last thing I remember was hearing an evil laugh, the slamming of a door and the endless chattering of a thousand hamsters running on a thousand tiny power generating wheels. I've been inside here ever since.

    cheers, Chris Maunder

I stumbled across CP while looking for a (free) alternative to Objective Grid. After mooching around for a while, I became a member but I only ever read articles and downloaded things from it. After a while, I decided it was time to start giving back to the community and wrote an article. This led to me moving over to the forums and then here to the lounge. Now, my wife thinks I'm an addict.

I discovered codeproject when I was searching for some stuff on building .NET applications. After searching one article I also discovered the forums... After that I never went to another website anymore when it comes to visiting forums.

You have to feed the hamsters, as some of them have already died during the last few weeks.

I found it during my quest for more programming knowledge. I was at beginner level in C# at the time, and I was searching on Google for a tutorial on something or other (don't remember what), when I came across CodeProject. My first impressions were "Wow, what a nice collection of articles!" followed by "Darn, why do they make me have to sign up to download the sample code?" It took a year before I finally signed up. :-O I remember one of my first posts was in the C# forum, asking if there was any way I could set up Cassini or another ASP.NET server on Windows 98 (to which Paul Watson answered "no" - and I later learned more about the low-level workings of ASP.NET and realised why). :-O Then after that I got sucked into the community of Loungers. :-D Back then I answered a lot of questions in the programming forums, and they had a much better "signal to noise ratio".

I was looking for an AIM client written in Java, since i was spending a lot of time in the room where they taught a Java class and i figured i could run it there and not raise suspicion with the admins...i've talked about this in another thread... I came across an article with the program and as i clicked on the link i found myself in a pleasant orange place with a lot of knowledgeable people :). I looked at a couple more articles including and "Ajax"-styled javascript menu, which i thought at the time was pretty nice (and still do). I signed up and the newsletter was great, but i ended up losing that email account when we switched isp's. Then i got caught up in work and forgot. Then about a year later i remembered about this place, and all i knew was i had to look for the same article, and if i landed at a place that was orange and said code-somethingrather, i was in the right place. I soon found it again and landed my flying saucer here, this time for a long stay:cool:. That's why some people questioned my "newbie" status then, having been a member for almost a year longer. Ahh Nostalgia! I was looking for a TWAIN tutorial on the net for my very first 'serious' project at my first job. Google turned up this [^] article here at CP. I was looking for help on the WIN32 and MFC and once again, google pointed me to CP. I shared the links with all my friends and one of them pointed me to the Soapbox X| Finally, I discovered the Lounge :jig: and I'm here ever since :-D

Simply because they rejected my admission into the insane asylum, and this was the closest place to it. :) In all seriousness I ended up here as a result of a Google search (and being completely lost with the MSDN) but don’t remember what I was searching for. :~

i got Chris M's email, when he announced to a group of CodeGuru people that he'd started CP. i can't verify, but i think i've been here since the first day it went public. at least, my CP ID is low enough that i doubt it was on-line too long before i got here.

Yep, I remembered that and when I visited codeproject back then, there were only 50 people sign up as members. I didn't sign up until much later, when downloading required signing in.

I was looking for free code on a grid control. Googled and found Chris's code for his grid that is one of the most popular articles here. I asked him if I could use it commercially and he said, "No problem." I thought that was the coolest thing ever and stayed.

I've been inside here ever since.

                                  cheers, Chris Maunder

I was just talking to VuNic about how we ended up on CP. I remember for the first few months the only interaction I had with CP was the insider. I kept clicking the bottom two links on the emails and ended up in this weird orange place with lots of people yelling. Then came the faithful day Jordan left. I instantly came to investigate what had happened. This led to my discovery of the Lounge, and the rest is history. How did you guys find this little pile of bytes we call home?

With friendly greetings,:) Eric Goedhart Interbritt

I stumbled onto it searching for some .net api call. I created a throwaway registration just to download the code. It wasn't until a year or so later when I found the lounge and created my current login.

I was hacking away on my DOS PC writing a modern version of Pong with my beloved Turbo Pascal one morning about 5. I got up to grab another cup of coffee and on my way back to the office, stumbled on a pile of AOL discs I was saving for Christmas tree ornaments and landed face first on the keyboard. When I awoke I found myself mesmerized by the warm, loving intelligence radiating from some odd, green being's eyes. He said, "call me Bob," and the next thing I remember is selecting a username and swearing to support Bob's bid for world domination. The very next day I installed Windows 95 beta and was never able to complete another program in Turbo Pascal. Since then I've discovered a cure for cancer, developed an economic model for finally eliminating world hunger, and perfected a technology for producing sustained cold fusion power. But all of these breakthroughs depend to some extent on a steady supply of baby harp seal parts, and Bob, kind and all-wise being that he is, has forbidden me to disclose my secrets. CodeProject has evolved since those early days into a fount of technical wisdom, woefully misguided and uproariously funny opinion, and something of a house of reverence to my hero, Bob. Alas...:sigh:
