I don't know if it's still around, but MS used to have a web version of MSN IM.

If your employer does not want you to use a messenger, why not abide by that rule? You may have already signed an agreement that binds you to follow the corporate policy; and some remedies that the employer can take, if you violate the terms of the agreement. Thomas
