Programming conferences

Has anyone got any experience with any of the (West coast US) programming conferences that are going to be going on this year? I just found a flyer for the SD Expo which is coming up soon, as is GDC; MS PDC is later in the year. Any comments on these? Are there any others that people rate? Any conference junkies who bag a ticket to all of them? Cheers, Ian

When is the SD Expo? I am just curious if it is the same time as the ESRI Developers conference?

I have been to SDWest. It was great. :) Just check out the details and see if it is a good match for your interests. Before I went to SDWest I checked out the presenters and tracks. There was a number of presenters who I recognised from reading their articles and books. There was a good mix of sessions, tutorials and panels. Most of what I saw was related to what I was working on, or, was planning to get into. A lot of technical presentation material can be found on-line. Conferences work for me because they get me out of the office and focused on the sessions. Also good for interaction with the experts and other attendees. -- Leah

GDC
I go to Game Developers Conference, when work will send me. Personally it is the greatest investment my company can make, for my particular work, and they try to send me when schedules permit. Alas I missed last years, I need to try for this year's. I focus on the skills necessary for my employment, and the furthering of the work I do, in which case two conferences matter the most: Siggraph and GDC. Siggraph gives conceptual, theoretical or research based ideas for future work -- they may take some finagling. GDC applies direct and applicable skills and concepts for immediate use. But again, I am very near the gaming industry as far as application.
