What are the chances? [modified]

I was doing my own bit of ego surfing after replying to Phil's post [^]earlier and seem to have found my doppelganger[^]. I know Dave/David is a fairly common name (& Sexton arguable so) but what are the chances of finding another dev with the same interests and name? Has that happened to anyone else here? (Apart from Peter Chen :-D) I wonder if he visits CP? //EDIT: After reading a few of the replies it looks like the chances are pretty good! :) ! -- modified at 9:24 Friday 2nd February, 2007
In my city, when I was finishing up college I got a call from the IRS. They were looking for a person with the same name as me in the same town. Granted, my father has the same name too, but it was a totally different person.

When I Googled my name ("Troy Hailey"), I came up with all sorts of pages concerning a young man who is a basketball player[^]. He's not me. ... Hmmm, I also came up with this page[^], which turns out to be on the blog of an irrational 'Darwinist' associate college professor who has an odd obsession with me (despite that I have never knowingly spoken to him, nor until this post knowingly said anything directly about him in a public forum). -- modified at 10:40 Friday 2nd February, 2007 And, considering the huge number of the pages referencing Troy, the basketball player, coupled with my complete lack of patience to wade through all the links, I fear I shall never learn whether we two are the only men in America named "Troy Hailey." (err, make that, the only three, since his father is also "Troy Hailey") -- modified at 10:44 Friday 2nd February, 2007

(*Sample chapter available online*) You're unique! :) -- modified at 13:22 Friday 2nd February, 2007 I've never known anyone other than my immediate family with the same spelling of our surname. And, while my first name isn't unique, it isn't common, either. I just never expected that there would be someone else in the US with the same name.

There's another Stephen Hazel in my same state (WA). He's an artist who lives downtown. His girlfriend/roommate/whatever has the same first name as my wife! http://www.seattleweekly.com/news/9917/features-sawahata.php[^] (scroll down to about the 3rd heading - if interested:-O) Kathleen is a pretty common name, though. I didn't really want to know this, but you made me look... So I blame you... But, well, his art SUCKS if you ask me...http://www.davidsongalleries.com/artists/hazel/hazel.html[^] And he's sorta balding...http://www.studioblu.org/stephen.htm[^] So so far, I think I've got the edge even though I'm much less famous. So yes, I definitely have the edge. ...Steve

Well, there's this one[^] for sure. But my name is also fairly common, so i wouldn't be surprised if there were a few more programmers sharing it.

There are only two people in this world apart from me who use the same surname. You will find Aswin easily on the web - he's a distant uncle of mine. The other is my brother, who doesn't have a WWW presence.
Cheers, Vikram.

"same named with a famous artist instead of a dorky blogger - neener neener neeeeener" No, no, no. Perhaps I wasn't clear enough. That blogger's name isn't also "Troy Hailey." Rather, Googling my name happened to bring up a link to a page on his blog, in which he mentions me by name as he "shows" what an egotist I am by misrepresenting -- or perhaps it was only that he was unable to follow the linear logic of it -- something I'd written elsewhere. His snide little comment was just icing on the cake. -- modified at 13:33 Friday 2nd February, 2007 Especially as I wouldn't be caught dead in loafers.
