1 & 1 Internet?

I have used http://www.1and1.com[^] for my domain names, but not as a host, currently using ServerBeach for that. Today, I noticed the pricing of their dedicated Windows servers and it seems to offer more than ServerBeach for less. Has anyone used their "dedicated servers" before and if so, how did that work out?

I've been using their dedicated servers about 3 years now and have had no problems whatsoever with the server nor their service. I've also used UK2 in the past and I would highly recommend 1 & 1 over UK2 without a doubt. Although the servers i have used have been linux based rather than windows based.

Price alone is not everything. I have been asked many times to move client web sites from 1&1 because of their poor service (random downtimes even with dedicated servers, network problems, no pro-active feedback such as 'dear customer, your server is down for maintenance', etc). Personally, I would stick with Serverbeach. Give them a call and tell them you are looking at other providers and they will most likely give you a discount. They did for me, and I was lying about switching. ;)

I have a dedicated server from them. It is used to host WDevs. I've had a few issues with getting the server rebooted when Windows has died, but other than that I've had no problems.

I'm so gangsta I eat cereal without the milkThe problem with Serverbeach is the cost of additional features and no external firewall. The 1&1 servers seem to have external firewalls on all dedicated servers along with 160 GB RAID drives included in the basic package along with 160 GB FTP backup. All that would cost a fortune at SB. While price is part of the equation, I am looking for systems that scale better such as 1&1's Enterprise package that is $399 per month for 5 TB bandwidth, 8 GB RAM, 500 GB HD running on a 2 x dual core AMD Opteron 2216-2.4 GHZ system. That seems to be a pretty awesome package. Anything close to that on SB would cost over $1,000 per month and they still would not have the external firewall and you have to pay hundreds extra for the additional backup space. What I really need that none of these seem to provide is web farm system with one or more database servers and multiple webserver front ends all on a private lan (not a virtual lan, but one that is physically private and does not consume bandwidth costs between the servers). That seems hard to find..

Oh, so that is where it went after ServerBeach.. The do not provide a rapid reboot system like SB?
