Google or Windows Desktop Search?

I'm using Google Dektop Search, but some factors have done me think about Windows Desktop Search (Like Microsoft World Domination Plans Vista Built-in Desktop Search, and Google Desktop let my computer really slow sometimes... Then, what your use and why?

No one here seems to use it... :(
All are born right-handed. Only gifted few overcome it. There's NO excuse for not commenting your code.

I also use Copernic, it takes a while to build the initial index if you have over 300gb of stored data (like me). You can tweak the settings and have it index the files and folders and drives as you choose. You also have the ability to have it index the file names only or the content of entire file. It's nice to get results from email search that includes all of my off-line folders and their attachments.:cool:

What put me off WDS is that when viewing a search hit in the preview pane, I couldn't find the search term. I had to copy and past from the preview pane into Notepad and do a Find. That is ridiculous.
I think there is an add-in you can get for that.

Copernic for me as well. The waiting for computer resources works very well. Searches are fast. The two issues I have are: 1) There is a program that I use that Copernic will slow down or lock up when I save the project. Copernic is jumping in too fast. 2) If you label an extension as a picture (.dwg - AutoCad drawing) and Copernic can't display it in the preview page, then the Copernic will shutdown it's desktop window. I tried GDS. It would re-index quite often and I didn't have any schedules for it to do that. Plus, like someone else mentioned, it downloaded quite a bit of information. Although, I did like all of the plug-ins available.

Having to get an add-in for such a basic feature does nothing to up my confidence in the WDS design team. You are looking for something, and you have to look for an add-in to find it? No thanks.

Hmmm, that's funny. I just thought you wanted keyword highlighting. Oh well, I'm not going to sell you on something you don't like. It works just fine for me.

My point is I already have keyword highlighting in Copernic without having to get an add-in.

I do.:) I did have resource problems with CDS 1.5 when that was out, so I abandoned it and tried it again when 1.7 came out about a year later. Not had any problems since then, although it often takes a while to end on shutdown and you get the occasional crash. Doesn't affect anything else though. Version 2 does seem slightly slower than version 1.7 though.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.(John 3:16) :badger:I found that GDS refused to index things unless I rebuilt the index from scratch, so I switched to WDS - but I actually find that Locate32 fills most of my needs and its very lightweight - I occasionally use the dog search - sans the mutt of course
