How do I watch video from my pc on my tv

If that could be combined with some sort of remote control then that might be the way to go.
On the web site it says "The Receiver is even capable of relaying any IR remote control signals back to the transmitter so that you can control the video source from your remote TV." but it also says "This item is no longer carried" Im sure you could find it elseware or get something similar. I found it through a google search but i cant remember what i searched for :)

I have a video (or even music) on my pc, I want to watch it (or listen to it) on my TV (or stereo). Is this unusual or do people generally get some kind of media pc and put it on a lan with their other computers to accomplish this stuff or..?
I once faced exactly the same situation and built a 30 feet S-Video cable. Everyone said "it won't work, it's too long", but the image was niiice :-D

If your PC has media center (or the version of vista with MC built in) you could get an Xbox360 which will be able to view your vids and music (and slideshow your photos too) Or google "media center extender" for loads of cheaper set top boxes that'll offer the same functionality (without the added gaming or hi-def'iness!)

You can use regular cat5 to send a signal up to about 300 feet from your PC to multiple monitors or TV's. Just get this ---> http://www.cdw.com/shop/products/default.aspx?EDC=721811 We are using it to display a menu on 2 46" LCD's and they are spitting out 1366x768 res over 150 ft. Hope this helps

:)You could look into MythTV - an Open Source Project just google mythTV - the Server runs on Linux but the end-User or Client version can run on linux, pc, or mac. And there are other items that can interface with it. Check out MediaMVP made by Hauppage. The Hardwire Version is $100 and the Wireless Version which can also be wired is $150. Both have a remote that you can access the files. MythTV is like a TIVO, but can also import your DVDs, music, photos, etc. There is also in automatic install which I have not tried but it is called KnopMyth, not sure if I spelled that right. I've got something very similar that I picked up in a B&Q Warehouse store (UK) about 18 months ago. It supports infra-red remote control: it relays the original remote of the transmitting device from the receiving end back to the transmitting end; you get a little IR emitter thingy you put within "view" of the IR receiver window of the transmitting device. (I hope that all makes some sense). I paid about 50 quid for the transmitter, receiver and a couple of SCART cables and a SCART/phono adapter.

The term MS uses for that is a Media Center Extender. The extender you're probably most familiar with is the Xbox 360. (IIRC the first Xbox needed additional software to be an extender, it's built into the 360.) If the computer where your media is stored is running XP MCE or Vista, the extender can hook up with the computer over the network and play the files off the MCE computer.

This is absolutely the way to go if you have the money. Run Vista Ultimate on your machine and buy an X360 for the living room. The pair does an incredible and user-friendly job of it. The only (big) downside is, there is no DivX support without some major hacks. But you gain full DVR capabilities if you don't already have one in the house (and you have a capture card in your computer).

There are 5 other units for this purpose (outside of the MyVideo device): 1. D-Link MediaLounge DSM-320 Wireless Media Player 2. Linksys Wireless A/G Media Center Extender (WMCE54AG-CA) 3. Linksys Wireless G Media Link for Video (WMLV54G) 4. Sony LocationFree® Player Pak (LF-PK1) 5. SlingCatcher will be released mid-2007 same manufacturer as the SlingBox I have not used any of these, but have been researching them. I am leaning toward the Linksys Wireless G Media Link for Video. However, I may wait until the SlingCatcher is available or at least until I can find out more about it.

I use an old X-BOX with the opensource X-BOX Media Centre installed as the default dashboard... It works a treat... It pulls the media files from my server... It cost me about $30 to convert... Plus you can still use it for playing games... Phil
