Hey folks! I made a computer controlled RC car a few days ago. Now, I've built a laser pointer + webcam range sensor as an obstacle detector for my car. People normally use IR or ultrasonic obstacle detectors in robotics..but I decided to use my weird obstacle detector with the RC car to turn it into an autonomous vehicle! I've mounted the obstacle detection thing on the car. The computer uses it to sense how far obstacles are.. if they're far enough..it moves the car forward..otherwise, it stops the car and turns it until it finds a place with no obstacles in close range. Check it out on my blog: http://ashishrd.blogspot.com/2007/02/autonomous-rc-car-with-laser-based.html[^] Hope you like it! Ashish :)

You going to submit it to the DARPA project?

Cool!! BTW, Did you or have you seen the "Grown Up Version" where they use full sized cars with the same type of robotics? There is a race across a fairly harduous terrain. Very clever stuff either on minature or full sized. :)

That sounds cool. Well, I've never tried/seen anything like that. I've only heard about it. :)

Cool stuff as always Ashish, I particularly like the use of clothes pin! :) I was a mad scientist like you when I was your age but the stuff we had to play with was way less interesting than it is now.

it is easier to widen it to any SBIR[^] than just DARPA, though DARPA is a bit more general sometimes. More choice is better. However, DARPA or SBIR are US paid so outsourcing is rare.

Ashish :)
