Ok. This is the 3rd time I've reformatted my laptop. Every Time I do and put it back to Dell's original setup, I get a bunch of crap I do not want. So I go and start deleting some files. This time I made sure I stayed away from anything Sonic related but still I deleted it. :wtf: I don't understand it. Is it related to Corel or Dell Games? It's times like these I wish They would have sent me a disc for the drivers so I could install My own OS.:mad::mad:

You might want to try to gather the required files from your computer and/or restore disk to create an exact replica of an OEM Windows installation disk. I have done this with my acer.

I believe you can buy bare bone kits. You will have to purchase the processor, hard-drive, and memory and maybe a couple other pieces of hardware.

... and you could probably order the laptop without any software, and get the OS separately. We have done that, but for Dell desktops (costs more, naturally). Dell usually provides drivers (on their website) for all devices that XP doesn't recognize by itself. Beware though of manufacturers like NEC who have everything pre-installed on the hard disk, and don't even provide a CD. (don't know if they still do it, our company has got a couple like that. I had a wonderful time reinstalling after one HDD crashed... X|)

Go to support.dell.com and enter your serial number/service tag or model and you can get a list of drivers for your system. I'd use the video drivers from the chipset manufacturer, but other then that the dell drivers should be good. Then you can do a regular install.

Sonic Update Manager is part of the roxio Easy Media Creator application, supplied with a lot of Dell machines. roxio is owned by an outfit called Sonic Solutions.

Right. But what was weird was that I did not unistall anything from Roxio. I stayed away from those because I thought that may have been the problem. I did find a way to fix it. Apparently something in the install shield updater caused the problem. I just uninstalled it and reinstalled it and all works normally again. I'm going to try to find the link for the fix. Ok. I am a customer advocate here at Dell headquarters in Texas. I'm glad to hear you found a way to fix the problem with Sonic. To be honest I'm not sure why it happened in the first place, as the installations are not supposed to effect each other unless they are installed together, and even then they usually are independent. As someone else posted, you can get the latest Dell drivers on the support site (http://support.dell.com). Personally, I would recommend using the latest Dell drivers and only going to the manufacturers version if something still doesn't work. The reason for this is that the drivers on the Dell website have been tested to ensure they don't cause other problems with the system. Using the manufacturers drivers should not cause a problem, however. While we had stopped shipping the OS and driver reinstallation CDs for a while, those disks were available from Tech Support if needed (and currently shipping systems have them by default again). If your system did not ship with an OS reinstallation CD I can most likely have one mailed out to you. If you need the CDs, or are just interested in having them "just in case" feel free to email me (customer_advocate@dell.com with 'ATTN: Larry' in the subject to ensure it gets to me) and I will see what I can do.
